Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor in adults, which remains incurable and often recurs rapidly after initial therapy. While large efforts have been dedicated to uncover genomic/transcriptomic alternations associated with the recurrence of GBMs, the evolutionary trajectories of matched pairs of primary and recurrent (P-R) GBMs remain largely elusive. It remains challenging to identify genes associated with time to relapse (TTR) and construct a stable and effective prognostic model for predicting TTR of primary GBM patients.

J Mol Endocrinol

August 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Linkou Medical Center, Chang Gung University School of Medicine, Taoyuan, Taiwan.

In this study, we investigate the effects of miRNA-138-5p and probable G-protein coupled receptor 124 (GPR124)-regulated inflammasome and downstream leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF)-STAT and adhesion molecule signaling in human decidual stromal cells. After informed consent was obtained from women aged 25-38 years undergoing surgical termination of the normal pregnancy and spontaneous miscarriage after 6-9 weeks of gestation, human decidual stromal cells were extracted from the decidual tissue. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) with microRNA (miRNA) between cells have been regarded as critical factors for embryo-maternal interactions on embryo implantation and programming of human pregnancy.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a widely accepted treatment for patients with mucosa (T1a) disease without lymph node metastasis. However, the inconsistency of inspection quality of tumor staging under the standard tool combining endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with computed tomography (CT) scanning makes it restrictive. We conducted a study using data augmentation and artificial intelligence (AI) to address the early gastric cancer (EGC) staging problem.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) affect serum potassium levels in patients with type 2 diabetes after starting sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i).
  • Among 5,529 patients observed, 36.7% had no eGFR decline, while 57.9% experienced a decline of up to 30%, and 5.4% had a decline exceeding 30%.
  • Notably, a decline greater than 30% was linked to increased risk of both high potassium (hyperkalemia) and low potassium (hypokalemia) levels, suggesting that monitoring potassium levels is crucial after initiating SGLT2i treatment.
