We analyzed transcriptional data from 104 HPV+ (Human papillomavirus) HNSCC (head and neck squamous cell carcinoma) tumors together with two publicly available sources to identify highly robust transcriptional programs (modules) which could be detected consistently despite heterogeneous sequencing and quantification methodologies. Among 22 modules identified, we found a single module that naturally subclassifies HPV+ HNSCC tumors based on a bimodal pattern of gene expression, clusters all atypical features of HPV+ HNSCC biology into a single subclass, and predicts patient outcome in four independent cohorts. The subclass-defining gene set was strongly correlated with Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) target expression.

Importance: In patients with cancer who have venous thromboembolism (VTE) events, long-term anticoagulation with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is recommended to prevent recurrent VTE. Extremotolerant organisms and industry exploit sugars as desiccation protectants, with trehalose being widely used by both. How sugars, in general, and the hydrolytically stable sugar trehalose, in particular, protect proteins is poorly understood, which hinders the rational design of new excipients and implementation of novel formulations for preserving lifesaving protein drugs and industrial enzymes. We employed liquid-observed vapor exchange nuclear magnetic resonance (LOVE NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) to show how trehalose and other sugars protect two model proteins: the B1 domain of streptococcal protein G (GB1) and truncated barley chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (CI2).

We sought to systematically review and summarize dosimetric factors associated with radiation-induced brachial plexopathy (RIBP) after stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or hypofractionated image guided radiation therapy (HIGRT). From published studies identified from searches of PubMed and Embase databases, data quantifying risks of RIBP after 1- to 10-fraction SBRT/HIGRT were extracted and summarized. Published studies have reported <10% risks of RIBP with maximum doses (D) to the inferior aspect of the brachial plexus of 32 Gy in 5 fractions and 25 Gy in 3 fractions.

Background: Several studies show an increase in complications, both cardiac and non-cardiac, and a higher mortality in patients with preexisting cardiac disease when they undergo elective surgery. APOBEC3 family members are cytidine deaminases catalyzing conversion of cytidine to uracil. Many studies have established a link between APOBEC3 expression and cancer development and progression, especially APOBEC3A (A3A) and APOBEC3B (A3B). Squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx caused by HPV type 16 (HPV16+ OPSCC) is the most common HPV-associated malignancy in the USA and has many molecular differences from uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma (UCSCC).
