Needs assessment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease in the encounter and communication with healthcare professionals: A fieldwork study.

Aim: To explore how patients with Inflammatory bowel disease experienced encounters with healthcare professionals in two gastrointestinal outpatient clinics to demonstrate what matters in the communication between patients and healthcare professionals.

Design: This fieldwork study is part of a larger study developing an application for patients with inflammatory bowel disease in a framework inspired by Participatory Design. Participatory design consists of three phases and this study focused on the first phase, needs assessment.

The short-term effect of hemodialysis on the level of high-sensitive cardiac troponin T - A systematic review.

Introduction: Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but interpreting cardiac troponin is difficult in this population. The effect of renal replacement therapy (RRT) is important to consider when interpreting serial cardiac troponin T (cTnT) results for patients with ESRD suspected of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The aim of this systematic review is to answer how low-flux hemodialysis (LF-HD), high-flux hemodialysis (HF-HD), and hemodiafiltration (HDF) affect the blood concentration of high-sensitive cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT).

Using BCG Vaccine to Enhance Nonspecific Protection of Health Care Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: The BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) vaccine can induce nonspecific protection against unrelated infections. We aimed to test the effect of BCG on absenteeism and health of Danish health care workers (HCWs) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Methods: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial included 1221 HCWs from 9 Danish hospitals.

2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT in Cancer of Unknown Primary Tumor-A Retrospective Register-Based Cohort Study.

We investigated the impact of 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT on detection rate (DR) of the primary tumor and survival in patients with suspected cancer of unknown primary tumor (CUP), comparing it to the conventional diagnostic imaging method, CT. Patients who received a tentative CUP diagnosis at Odense University Hospital from 2014-2017 were included. Patients receiving a 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT were assigned to the 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT group and patients receiving a CT only to the CT group.

The Association Between Cognitive Functions and Psychological Factors in Patients with Severe COPD.

Purpose: Patients with COPD experience anxiety, depression, and stress more frequently than in the age and gender-matched general population. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the relationship between cognitive functions and the psychological factors of anxiety, depression and stress among patients with COPD.

Patients And Methods: Between January 2021 and January 2023, patients with severe COPD were recruited, along with age-matched controls.

Consultation on UTUC II Stockholm 2022: diagnostic and prognostic methods-what's around the corner?

Purpose: To map current literature and provide an overview of upcoming future diagnostic and prognostic methods for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), including translational medical science.

Methods: A scoping review approach was applied to search the literature. Based on the published literature, and the experts own experience and opinions consensus was reached through discussions at the meeting Consultation on UTUC II in Stockholm, September 2022.

The Danish Pain Research Biobank (DANPAIN-Biobank): a collection of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and clinical data for the study of neuroimmune and glia-related biomarkers of chronic pain.

Background: Chronic pain is a major health problem worldwide but the limited knowledge of its underlying pathophysiology impairs the opportunities for diagnostics and treatment. Biomarkers of chronic pain are greatly needed to understand the disease and develop new targets for interventions and drug treatments, and potentially introduce more precise diagnostic procedures. Much evidence points to a neuroimmune pathology for many chronic pain conditions and that important neuroimmune biomarkers exist in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with chronic pain.

Risk factors and outcome following salvage surgery for squamous cell carcinoma of the anus.

Background: Chemoradiotherapy is the primary treatment for anal cancer. 15-33% of patients will have persistent or recurrent disease after treatment requiring salvage surgery. Relapse after surgery, postoperative complications, and mortality as well as possible risk factors are not fully understood due to the rareness of the disease.

Effect of surgery on the long-term use of opioids in patients with degenerative back disorders: a retrospective register-based study.

Purpose: This study based exclusively on register-data provides a scientific basis for further research on the use of opioids in patients with degenerative back disorder. The main objective of this study is to investigate whether surgically treated back pain patients have the same risk of being long-term opioid users as back pain patients who did not have surgery.

Methods: We performed a retrospective register-based cohort study based on all patients diagnosed with a degenerative back disorder at the Spine Center of Southern Denmark from 2011 to 2017.

Creating a population-based cohort of children born with and without congenital anomalies using birth data matched to hospital discharge databases in 11 European regions: Assessment of linkage success and data quality.

Linking routinely collected healthcare administrative data is a valuable method for conducting research on morbidity outcomes, but linkage quality and accuracy needs to be assessed for bias as the data were not collected for research. The aim of this study was to describe the rates of linking data on children with and without congenital anomalies to regional or national hospital discharge databases and to evaluate the quality of the matched data. Eleven population-based EUROCAT registries participated in a EUROlinkCAT study linking data on children with a congenital anomaly and children without congenital anomalies (reference children) born between 1995 and 2014 to administrative databases including hospital discharge records.

Translation, cross-cultural adaption, validity and reliability of a composite physical function scale for adults aged 65 + years in a Danish context.

Background: To prevent or postpone dependence on help in everyday activities, early identification of adults aged 65 + years at risk of functional decline or with progressing functional decline is essential. The American Composite Physical Function (CPF) scale was developed to detect and prevent this age-conditioned decline. In this study, the aim was to translate and adapt the scale into a Danish version and assess the validity and reliability in Danish adults aged 65 + years.

A randomised trial of [F]PSMA-1007-PET/CT versus NaF-PET/CT for staging primary prostate cancer: A trial protocol.

Background: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positron emission tomography/contrast-enhanced computed tomography (PET/CT) is a sensitive imaging modality for prostate cancer (PCa). Due to lack of knowledge of the patient benefit, PSMA-PET/CT is not yet recommended in the European guidelines for staging and treatment planning of patients with newly diagnosed PCa. We will investigate the potential difference in progression-free survival (PFS) and quality of life (QoL) of using PSMA-PET/CT versus sodium fluoride (NaF)-PET/CT for staging and treatment planning in patients with newly diagnosed PCa.

Information needs and preferences of patients with an ankle fracture: User involvement study creating an mHealth solution.

Objective: The aim of this study was to employ a user-driven participatory design (PD) approach to develop an mHealth solution that addresses patients' information needs after surgical or non-surgical treatment for an ankle fracture.

Methods: Patients with an ankle fracture and health care professionals along the treatment pathway in both the hospital and municipality participated in four workshops (WS).

Results: We found that patients with an ankle fracture need information on topics such as "a typical course," "bandages and assistive devices," "what can I feel," "what may I do," "what to usually worry about," "medicine," "tips and tricks," and "contact information.

The perception of patients, mothers and healthcare professionals regarding introduction of home visits for adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

Background And Objectives: Despite advancements in diabetes management, a subgroup of patients does not achieve an acceptable level of metabolic control. To achieve treatment goals for high-risk patients, a higher frequency of contact with healthcare professionals is essential. Spermatocytic tumors in 2 patients aged 50 and 77 years: 2 case reports and brief review of the literature.

Testicular cancer is predominantly diagnosed in young men aged 15-35 years. However, there are some rare tumors such as spermatocytic tumors that are seen more often in the older male population. Spermatocytic tumors have previously been known as spermatocytic seminomas in the scientific literature.

Nordic anal cancer (NOAC) group consensus guidelines for risk-adapted delineation of the elective clinical target volume in anal cancer.

To date, anal cancer patients are treated with radiotherapy to similar volumes despite a marked difference in risk profile based on tumor location and stage. A more individualized approach to delineation of the elective clinical target volume (CTVe) could potentially provide better oncological outcomes as well as improved quality of life. The aim of the present work was to establish Nordic Anal Cancer (NOAC) group guidelines for delineation of the CTVe in anal cancer.

Ethics and legal requirements for data linkage in 14 European countries for children with congenital anomalies.

Introduction: Linking healthcare data sets can create valuable resources for research, particularly when investigating rare exposures or outcomes. However, across Europe, the permissions processes required to access data can be complex. This paper documents the processes required by the EUROlinkCAT study investigators to research the health and survival of children with congenital anomalies in Europe.

The burden of disease for children born alive with Turner syndrome-A European cohort study.

Background: Turner syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly caused by complete or partial X chromosome monosomy that may affect mortality and morbidity in childhood.

Methods: This population-based data-linkage cohort study, as part of the EUROlinkCAT project, investigated mortality and morbidity for the first 5 years of life for liveborn European children diagnosed with Turner syndrome. Thirteen population-based registries in 10 countries from the European surveillance of congenital anomalies (EUROCAT) network participated.

Developing and Implementing a Father-Friendly Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Improved Nurses' Self-Efficacy.

Background: The need for paternal support is rarely addressed in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Neonatal nurses often primarily focus on the needs of the mother and infant and may not be trained in support of fathers.

Intestinal ultrasound in patients with suspected Crohn's disease - results of a prospective evaluation by trainees.

Background And Aims: Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) performed by experts is a valuable tool for the diagnostic work-up and monitoring of Crohn's disease (CD). However, concern about insufficient training and perceived high inter-observer variability limit the adoption of IUS in CD. We examined the diagnostic accuracy of trainee-performed IUS in patients with suspected CD.

Special Challenges in PET Imaging of Ectothermic Vertebrates.

The bulk of biomedical positron emission tomography (PET)-scanning experiments are performed on mammals (ie, rodents, pigs, and dogs), and the technique is only infrequently applied to answer research questions in ectothermic vertebrates such as fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Nevertheless, many unique and interesting physiological characteristics in these ectothermic vertebrates could be addressed in detail through PET. The low metabolic rate of ectothermic animals, however, may compromise the validity of physiological and biochemical parameters derived from the images created by PET and other scanning modalities.
