Effect of familial clustering in the genetic screening of 235 French ALS families.

J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry

May 2021

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department, Université Francois-Rabelais de Tours, Tours, Centre-Val de Loire, France.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to investigate how the familial clustering and symptoms of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) cases could help identify the disease's genetic causes.
  • Researchers analyzed genetic mutations in 235 French families with familial ALS to find connections between genealogy and the disease's characteristics.
  • Findings indicated that specific genetic mutations were linked to the number of affected family generations, suggesting that understanding family history and symptoms could guide targeted genetic testing for ALS.

Objective: To identify in patients who survived 6 months after a spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) baseline characteristics and new clinical events associated with functional decline.

Methods: In a single-centre study, we prospectively included 6-month survivors with a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 0-3. We defined functional decline by a transition to mRS 4-5.

Purpose: When vaginal delivery is considered in women with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) treatment, epidural analgesia is contraindicated for 12-24 h after the last injection. We evaluated the proportion of epidural analgesia depending on whether this is scheduled delivery (labor induction after stopping LMWH) or unscheduled delivery (stopping LMWH at labor onset).

Methods: Retrospective hospital study running from 2015 to 2017.

Rescue carotid puncture for ischemic stroke treated by endovascular therapy: a multicentric analysis and systematic review.

J Neurointerv Surg

September 2021

Interventional Neuroradiology, Fondation Ophtalmologique Adolphe de Rothschild, Paris, Île-de-France, France.

Background: Endovascular therapy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) can be challenging in older patients with supra-aortic tortuosity. Rescue carotid puncture (RCP) can be an alternative in case of supra-aortic catheterization failure by femoral access, but data regarding RCP are scarce. We sought to investigate the feasibility, effectiveness and safety of RCP for AIS treated by EVT.

Invasive tracheobronchial aspergillosis (ITBA) is an uncommon but severe clinical form of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in which the fungal infection is entirely or predominantly confined to the tracheobronchial tree. To analyze the diagnostic and prognostic differences between tracheobronchial aspergillosis and pulmonary aspergillosis without tracheobronchial lesions among patients admitted to the ICU with severe influenza. This retrospective, observational study included critically ill patients with influenza associated with pulmonary aspergillosis from three hospital ICUs between 2010 and 2019.

Complete 3 dimensional reconstruction of parturient pelvic floor.

J Gynecol Obstet Hum Reprod

University of Lille, Faculty of Medicine, F-59000, Lille, France; Gynecologic Surgery Unit, Lille University Hospital Center, Hopital Jeanne de Flandre, Rue Eugene Avinee, F-59000, Lille, France; CNRS - FRE 2016 - LaMcube, Laboratoire de mécanique multiphysique multiéchelle, Ecole Centrale de Lille, Cite scientifique, F-59650, Villeneuve d'Ascq, France.

Introduction: The women pelvic floor is a complex system, which seems to endure several modifications during pregnancy and childbirth. Our primary purpose was to build an extensive 3 dimensional (3D) numerical anatomical model of the women pelvic floor.

Methods: First, the role and the location of each organ, muscle, or ligament, were identified through an extensive literature review.

Objective: The substantial clinical improvement in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy (MT), combined with the poor response of proximal intracranial occlusions to intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), led to questions regarding the utility of bridging therapy (BT; IVT followed by MT) compared to direct mechanical thrombectomy (dMT) for AIS patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO).

Methods: We aimed to investigate the comparative safety and efficacy of BT and dMT in AIS patients. We included all observational studies and post hoc analyses from randomized controlled clinical trials that provided data on the outcomes of AIS patients with LVO stratified by IVT treatment status prior to MT.

Within the Movember Foundation's Global Action Plan Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance (GAP3) initiative, 25 centers across the globe collaborate to standardize active surveillance (AS) protocols for men with low-risk prostate cancer (PCa). A centralized PCa AS database, comprising data of more than 15000 patients worldwide, was created. Comparability of the histopathology between the different cohorts was assessed by a centralized pathology review of 445 biopsies from 15 GAP3 centers.

Introduction And Hypothesis: We studied the geometry of and changes in structures that play an important role in stabilizing the pelvic system during pregnancy using a numerical system at different gestational ages and postpartum.

Methods: We developed a parturient numerical model to assess pelvic structures at different gestational stages (16, 32, and 38 weeks) and postpartum (2 months and 1 year) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Organs, muscles, and ligaments were segmented to generate a 3D model of the pelvis.

Objective: Perampanel (PER) is a selective noncompetitive antagonist at α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptors, the first of its class approved for the adjunctive treatment of partial onset seizures and generalized seizures. This study explored anti-ictogenic and antiepileptogenic effects of PER in rats at different stages of development.

Methods: Using a rapid kindling model in postnatal day 14 (P14), P21, P28, and P60 rats, we studied two doses of PER: 1 and 2 mg/kg injected intraperitoneally 30 min before afterdischarge assessment.
