In this work, a twin-screw dry granulation (TSDG) was adopted to produce vitamin D3 (VD3) and iron blended dry granules using corn starch as an excipient. Response surface methodology was applied to determine the effect of the formulation compositions (VD3 and iron) on granule properties [tapped bulk density, oil holding capacity, and volumetric mean particle size (D50)]. Results indicated that the model fitted well, and responses, in particular flow properties, were significantly affected by the composition.

The CRISPR-associated (Cas) Cas12a is the effector protein for type V-A CRISPR systems. Cas12a is a sequence-specific endonuclease that targets and cleaves DNA containing a cognate short signature motif, called the protospacer adjacent motif (PAM), flanked by a 20 nucleotide (nt) segment that is complementary to the "guide" region of its CRISPR RNA (crRNA). The guide sequence of the crRNA can be programmed to target any DNA with a cognate PAM and is the basis for Cas12a's current use for gene editing in numerous organisms and for medical diagnostics.

Background: Nutrition transition towards a Western diet is happening in parallel with the rapidly increasing rates of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in Kuwait. The cardiometabolic deaths attributable to poor diet have not been quantified among Kuwaiti adults.
Methods: Using a Comparative Risk Assessment model that incorporated dietary intake data from Kuwait's first national nutrition survey, number of cardiometabolic deaths from the World Health Organization, and estimated associations of diet with cardiometabolic deaths from the Global Burden of Disease project, we estimated the number and proportion of cardiometabolic deaths attributable to suboptimal intake of 10 dietary factors among Kuwaiti adults ages 25+ years, and by population subgroups.
