Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) have proven efficacy and safety in randomized clinical trials and observational real-life studies. Besides improving glucose control, reducing body weight, and lowering arterial blood pressure (surrogate endpoints), the breakthroughs were the demonstration of a significant reduction in cardiovascular and renal events in patients with type 2 diabetes at high risk. GLP-1RAs reduce events linked to atherogenic cardiovascular disease (especially ischemic stroke) and also renal outcomes (FLOW trial with semaglutide), with a limited effect on heart failure.

Background And Aims: Corticosteroids are widely used in managing inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]. While adverse events [AEs] of corticosteroids are well recognised, current understanding of corticosteroid-related AE burden in IBD remains incomplete.

Methods: AE reports for prednisone/prednisolone and budesonide were extracted from the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System [FAERS] and VigiBase databases.

Higher relative survival in breast cancer patients treated in certified and high-volume breast cancer centres - A population-based study in Belgium.

Objectives: The study was undertaken to assess the association between certification and volume of breast centres on the one hand and survival on the other in patients with invasive breast cancer (IBC).

Methods: The study comprises a cohort of 46,035 patients diagnosed with IBC between 2014 and 2018, selected from the nation-wide Belgian Cancer Registry (BCR) database, which was linked with health insurance, hospital discharge and vital status data. Overall and relative survival probabilities were obtained with Kaplan-Meier method and an actuarial approach based on Ederer II, respectively.

Design: In SPARE, patients with CD in sustained steroid-free clinical remission and on combination therapy were randomly allocated to three arms: continuing combination therapy, stopping infliximab or stopping immunosuppressant.

We initiated pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) in inducible monocyte fate-mapping mice and combined single-cell transcriptomics and high-dimensional flow cytometry to profile the monocyte-to-TAM transition.

Background And Aims: Leaf traits are known to be strong predictors of plant performance and can be expected to (co)vary along environmental gradients. We investigated the variation, integration, environmental relationships and evolutionary history of leaf functional traits in the genus Coffea, typically a rainforest understorey shrub, across Africa. A better understanding of the adaptive processes involved in leaf trait evolution can inform the use and conservation of coffee genetic resources in a changing climate.

Results: In this study, we phenotyped 1975 Belgian Blue cattle from more than 100 different groups on commercial beef farms for their psoroptic mange susceptibility.

Coronary computed angiography (CCTA) with non-invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) calculates lesion-specific ischemia when compared with invasive FFR and can be considered for patients with stable chest pain and intermediate-grade stenoses according to recent guidelines. The objective of this study was to compare a new CCTA-based artificial-intelligence deep-learning model for FFR prediction (FFR) to computational fluid dynamics CT-derived FFR (FFR) in patients with intermediate-grade coronary stenoses with FFR as reference standard. The FFR model was trained with curved multiplanar-reconstruction CCTA images of 500 stenotic vessels in 413 patients, using FFR measurements as the ground truth.

Demonstrating the long-term efficacy of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) necessitates an understanding of SMA natural history.

Objective: This study summarizes published natural history data on respiratory, swallowing, feeding, and speech functions in patients with SMA not receiving DMTs.

Rapid segmentation of computed tomography angiography images of the aortic valve: the efficacy and clinical value of a deep learning algorithm.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to explore the reliability and clinical value of fast, accurate automatic segmentation of the aortic root based on a deep learning tool compared with computed tomography angiography.

Methods: A deep learning tool for automatic 3-dimensional aortic root reconstruction, the CVPILOT system (TAVIMercy Data Technology Ltd., Nanjing, China), was trained and tested using computed tomography angiography scans collected from 183 patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement from January 2021 to December 2022.
