Background: A cardiac condition marked by excessive growth of heart muscle cells, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a complex genetic disorder characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy, microvascular ischemia, myocardial fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), a subset of HCM, involves significant obstruction in the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT), leading to symptoms like dyspnea, fatigue, and potentially life-threatening cardiac events. With advancements in genetic understanding and the introduction of novel pharmacologic agents, including cardiac myosin inhibitors like mavacamten and aficamten, there is a paradigm shift in the therapeutic approach to oHCM.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound elastography compared to fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in diagnosing thyroid nodules as benign or malignant.
  • The research involved 360 patients with visible thyroid nodules and found that FNAC outperformed ultrasound elastography in terms of sensitivity (92.00%) and specificity (85.33%) for distinguishing benign nodules.
  • Ultimately, while ultrasound elastography showed potential with an accuracy of 81.94%, FNAC maintains its status as the gold standard with an accuracy of 85.47%, particularly across different age groups.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects millions worldwide, presenting challenges in managing symptoms and quality of life. Current treatments include topical corticosteroids (TCS), but novel approaches, such as Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, show promise. Baricitinib, a selective JAK1 and JAK2 inhibitor, targets cytokines involved in AD and offers potential benefits beyond traditional therapies.

Background: Exhumation of bodies for forensic purposes serves as a pivotal tool in medico-legal investigations, yet there is scant data on the practice within the Pakistani context, particularly in the District of Hyderabad. Aim & Objective were to investigate the prevalence and outcomes of exhumations in Hyderabad, contributing to the knowledge base and understanding the cultural and legal factors influencing post-mortem examinations.

Methods: A descriptive, observational, and retrospective analysis of 95 medicolegal exhumations carried out over two years, examining demographic data, the interval between death and exhumation, putrefactive changes, and the determination of the cause of death.

Global burden of disease attributable to metabolic risk factors in adolescents and young adults aged 15-39, 1990-2021.

Clin Nutr

December 2024

MAFLD Research Center, Department of Hepatology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China; Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment for the Development of Chronic Liver Disease in Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Metabolic risk factors are a significant cause of global burden among adolescents and young adults, but there is a lack of attention to the burden attributable to these metabolic risk factors globally.

Aims: This study aims to provide comprehensive estimates of five important metabolic risk factors and the attributable disease burden in people aged 15-39 years from 1990 to 2021, based on the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) database.

Methods: Global total deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were used to describe the burden attributable to five common metabolic risk factors, including high fasting plasma glucose (FPG), high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high systolic blood pressure (SBP), high body mass index (BMI), and kidney dysfunction, in adolescents and young adults.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as a major global health concern due to its association with increased mortality. While previous studies have indicated a link between NAFLD and mortality, variations in risk factors such as age, sex, and disease severity warrant a comprehensive meta-analysis to clarify these associations. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the overall cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality risk associated with NAFLD, considering various subgroups defined by age, sex, disease severity, presence of cirrhosis or fibrosis, study quality, and follow-up duration.

The "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery" (ERAS) strategy, a patient-centered, evidence-based approach, aims to reduce surgical stress, maintain physiological function, and expedite recovery. Initially developed for elective surgeries, particularly colorectal procedures, ERAS protocols are now being explored for their potential benefits in the more challenging context of emergency surgeries. The current investigation aims to identify the most useful ERAS components in emergency surgery scenarios by comparing postoperative recovery times, possible health outcomes of patients, and complication rates.
