N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification is the most common mRNA modification that is considered a new layer of mRNA epigenetic regulation. Demethylase fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) are important in the dynamic regulation of m6A, but their role in gastric cancer (GC) is not fully understood. This study revealed that FTO and CDKAL1 were up-regulated in GC cells and tissue.

Liquid biopsy provides non-invasive and real-time detection for cancer diagnosis, but the lack of specific markers targeted to liquid biopsy components, such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes, has impeded its effective utilization in clinical settings. W3 is an aptamer, and its target has been previously demonstrated to be a predictor of colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis. Herein, we developed a W3-based molecular beacon (MAB-W3-3G) to specifically detect CTCs and exosomes derived from CRC patients by modifying the W3 sequence and adding a fluorescent group FAM at the 5' end and a quencher group BHQ1 at the 3' end, resulting in a detectable green fluorescence only in the presence of the target.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a universal endocrine and metabolic disorder prevalent in reproductive aged women. PCOS is often accompanied with insulin resistance (IR) which is an essential pathological factor. Although there is no known cure for PCOS, cangfudaotan (CFDT) decoction is widely used for the treatment of PCOS; nevertheless, the underlying mechanism is not clear.

As a widely applied traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Jian-Pi-Yi-Shen (JPYS) decoction maybe applied in curing premature ovarian failure (POF) besides chronic kidney disease (CKD). experiments, 40 female SD (8-week-old) rats were randomized into four groups, namely, control group (negative control), POF model group, JPYS treatment group, and triptorelin treatment group (positive control). JPYS group was treated with JPYS decoction (oral, 11 g/kg) for 60 days, and the triptorelin group was treated with triptorelin (injection, 1.

Objective: Obesity enhances the frequency and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR). Tanshinone IIA (TIIA) pre-treatment was used to alleviate renal injury induced by renal IR, and whether TIIA can attenuate renal cell apoptosis via modulating mitochondrial function through PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in obese rats was examined.
Methods: Male rates were fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks to generate obesity, followed by 30 min of kidney ischemia and 24 h reperfusion induced AKI.

Computed tomography (CT) has been the most effective modality for characterizing and quantifying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Radiomics features extracted from the region of interest in chest CT images have been widely used for lung diseases, but they have not yet been extensively investigated for COPD. Therefore, it is necessary to understand COPD from the lung radiomics features and apply them for COPD diagnostic applications, such as COPD stage classification.

Obesity, which has unknown pathogenesis, can increase the frequency and seriousness of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study evaluated effect of Huayu Qutan Recipe (HQR) pretreatment on myocardial apoptosis induced by AMI by regulating mitochondrial function via PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in rats with obesity. For in vivo experiments, 60 male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sham group, AMI group, AMI (obese) group, 4.

Long intergenic nonprotein-coding RNA 1703 (LINC01703) has diagnostic significance in lung adenocarcinoma. However, its specific roles in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and downstream mechanisms have not been investigated. In the current study, we characterized the role of LINC01703 in NSCLC malignancy and elucidated its detailed mechanism of action.

Growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible protein 34 (GADD34), one of the key effectors of negative feedback loops, is induced by stress and subsequently attempts to restore homeostasis. It plays a critical role in response to DNA damage and endoplasmic reticulum stress. GADD34 has opposing effects on different stimulus-induced cell apoptosis events in many nervous system diseases, but its role in ischemic stroke is unclear.

Coronary artery fistula (CAF) is a rare condition, whilst lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide. We came cross an interesting case with both diseases. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report pertaining to a patient with a coexisting CAF and lung adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: The main objectives of this study were to assess the early changes in pulmonary function and intrarenal haemodynamics and to determine the correlation between pulmonary function and intrarenal haemodynamics in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: 96 patients with T2DM (diabetes group) without diabetes kidney disease (DKD) and 33 healthy subjects (control group) were enrolled in studies intended to assess the early changes in pulmonary function and intrarenal haemodynamics associated with diabetes, as well as to determine the correlation between pulmonary function and intrarenal haemodynamics.
Results: Pulmonary functional parameters were negatively correlated with HbA1c levels and diabetes duration (P< 0.

Objective: The primary aim of this study is to examine the hemodynamics of retrobulbar and intrarenal in the changes of early stage of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients from 2000 to 2015 and to assess incidence associated with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Method: Our study contained 60 subjects newly diagnosed of T2DM were divided into 2 groups base on the mean resistive index (RI) (≤0.7 and >0.

Background: The primary goals of this study were to evaluate early changes in pulmonary function and retrobulbar hemodynamics and to examine the correlation between these parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes during the preclinical stages of diabetic retinopathy.
Methods: For the single-time point measurements, 63 subjects with type 2 diabetes without diabetic retinopathy (diabetes group) and 32 healthy subjects (control group) were selected to evaluate any early changes in pulmonary function and retrobulbar hemodynamics and to examine the correlation between these parameters. In the longitudinal follow-up study, 32 subjects who were newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes were divided into 2 groups according to their resistivity index (≤0.

Background: To observe the effect of alogliptin combined with metformin on pulmonary function in obese patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled by metformin monotherapy (500 mg, bid po, for at least 3 months), and evaluate its efficacy and safety.
Methods: After a 2-week screening period, adult patients (aged 36-72 years) entered a 4-week run-in/stabilization period. Then, patients were randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n = 55) or the control group (n = 50) for 26 weeks.

In this study, we attempted to explore the factors affecting the yield of cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) obtained from maternal blood samples, including the use of different types of collection tubes, the interval between sample processing, and sample shipping under extreme weather conditions. Blood samples were drawn into K3EDTA tubes and cell-stabilizing tubes (Streck blood collection tube, BCT) from women pregnant with male fetuses. Real time PCR was used to amplify a β-actin gene fragment to measure the total plasma cell-free DNA concentration, while an SRY gene fragment was used to quantify the cffDNA.

The aim of this study was to observe the expression of poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) in the CA1 region of the hippocampus and to explore whether cilostazol pretreatment exerts a protective effect on the brain through the PARP/AIF-mediated pathway in a rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion. Rats were randomly divided into three groups: Sham-surgery, ischemia-reperfusion and cilostazol (n=45 rats/group). Rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were prepared using a thread occlusion method.
