Backgroud: Oxygen metabolism is an important factor affecting the development of tumors, but its roles and clinical value in Colorectal cancer are not clear. We developed an oxygen metabolism (OM) based prognostic risk model for colorectal cancer and explored the role of OM genes in cancer.
Methods: Gene expression and clinical data obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas, Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium databases were consider as discovery and validation cohort, respectively.

Background: Portal hypertension (PH) is the main cause of complications and death in liver cirrhosis. The effect of oral administration of octreotide (OCT), a drug that reduces PH by the constriction of mesenteric arteries, is limited by a remarkable intestinal first-pass elimination.
Methods: The bile duct ligation (BDL) was used in rats to induce liver cirrhosis with PH to examine the kinetics and molecular factors such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp), multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2) and cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) influencing the intestinal OCT absorption via in situ and in vitro experiments on jejunal segments, transportation experiments on Caco-2 cells and experiments using intestinal microsomes and recombinant human CYP3A4.

The ability of skeletal muscle to switch between lipid and glucose oxidation for ATP production during metabolic stress is pivotal for maintaining systemic energy homeostasis, and dysregulation of this metabolic flexibility is a dominant cause of several metabolic disorders. However, the molecular mechanism that governs fuel selection in muscle is not well understood. Here, we report that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a fasting-induced myokine that controls metabolic reprograming through the AMPK/CREB/PGC-1α pathway in female mice.

Background: The quantity of metastases lesions is an important reference when it comes to making a more informed treatment decision for patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases. However, the molecular alterations in patients with different numbers of lesions have not been systematically studied.
Methods: We investigated somatic alterations and microsatellite instability (MSI) of liver metastases from patients with single, multiple or diffuse metastasis lesions.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are used for metastasis surveillance in cancer patients, but low detection rates limit their use in colorectal cancer (CRC). We investigated the distribution of CTCs in peripheral and portal blood of CRC patients, and analyzed the relationship between serum tumor CEA/CA19-9 markers and CTCs blood levels. CTC levels detected in first reflux/portal vein blood were higher than in peripheral blood, and liver reduced CTCs amount.
