Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a highly aggressive, heterogeneous tumour usually caused by alcohol and tobacco consumption, making it one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Despite the fact that various therapeutic approaches such as surgery, radiation therapy (RT), chemotherapy (CT) and targeted therapy have been widely used for HNSCC in recent years, its recurrence rate and mortality rate remain high. RT is the standard treatment choice for HNSCC, which induces reactive oxygen species production and causes oxidative stress, ultimately leading to tumour cell death.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2024

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Liaocheng People's Hospital, Liaocheng, China.

Background: Spindle cell tumors are rare and can occur in any organ or tissue. Due to their rarity the clinicopathological features and diagnostic protocols have not been adequately studied. However, it has become necessary to develop differential diagnosis of spindle cell tumors.

Background: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a reliable, non-invasive screening method for diagnosing panvascular disease. By using low contrast agent volume, CTA imaging enables one-stop multi-organ scanning, thereby minimizing the potential risk of contrast-induced nephropathy in patients with impaired renal function.

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of one-stop CTA following a heart rate (HR)-based protocol using a low volume of contrast medium (CM) for examination of the coronary, carotid and cerebrovascular arteries.

Low-grade malignant myofibroblastic sarcoma of the larynx: a case report.

J Int Med Res

September 2023

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Liaocheng People's Hospital, Liaocheng, China.

Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor derived from myofibroblasts. It is commonly identified in the head and neck, and particularly in the oral cavity, but rarely in the larynx. In this case report, we describe a patient who presented with hoarseness and underwent electronic fiber laryngoscopy, which revealed a neoplasm on the surface of his left vocal cord.

Background: This study aimed to explore the predictive value of CHA DS -VASc score for in-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary artery intervention.

Methods: A total of 746 STEMI patients were divided into four groups according to CHA DS -VASc score (1, 2-3, 4-5, >5). The predictive ability of the CHA DS -VASc score for in-hospital MACE was made.

Immune response is an important factor in determining the fate of bone replacement materials, in which macrophages play an important role. It is a new idea to design biomaterials with immunomodulatory function to reduce inflammation and promote bone integration by regulating macrophages polarization. In this work, the immunomodulatory properties of CaP Zn-Mn-Li alloys and the specific mechanism of action were investigated.

Background: Brain plasticity and functional reorganization are the main mechanisms of stroke rehabilitation and the theoretical basis for transcranial magnetic therapy. Bimodal balance recovery model suggests that the structural integrity of neural pathways affects the functional reorganization mode of brain recovery after stroke. The principal neural pathway that innervates swallowing is the corticobulbar tract (CBT).

Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial effect of vancomycin hydrogel on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Methods: We used polylactide glycolide-polyethylene glycol-polylactide glycolide (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) copolymer as a carrier of vancomycin to prepare vancomycin hydrogel. A vancomycin hydrogel group, a PLGA-PEG-PLGA copolymer group, a phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) negative control group and a vancomycin group were set for comparison.

Colon cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide, and the molecular mechanisms involved in the oncogenesis and progression of colon cancer remain unclear. Early growth response 1 (Egr‑1) is a transcription factor that is closely associated with several tumor processes; however, its role in colon cancer is unknown. The present study aimed to explore the function and mechanism of transcription factor Egr‑1 in colon cancer progression.
