Sepsis triggers severe inflammatory responses leading to organ dysfunction and demands early diagnostic and therapeutic intervention. This study identifies differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in sepsis patients using the Gene Expression Omnibus database to find potential diagnostic and therapeutic markers. We analyzed the dataset GSE123731 via GEO2R to detect DEGs, constructed protein-protein interaction networks, and performed transcription factor analyses using Cytoscape.

Article Synopsis
  • Lp-PLA2 plays a significant role in inflammatory responses during sepsis, as shown by its increased levels in septic mice and cell cultures.
  • Increased Lp-PLA2 levels were positively correlated with higher proinflammatory cytokine concentrations in sepsis patients, indicating its involvement in inflammation.
  • The study highlights a regulatory mechanism where Spi1 promotes Pla2g7 transcription, and manipulating these factors can reduce inflammatory responses and organ damage in septic conditions.

Blood Diseases Institute, Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, China; Department of Hematology, The Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, China; Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Bone Marrow Stem Cells, Xuzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Some challenges still exist with single-target B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies due to variable or negative BCMA expression, although they have yielded remarkable efficacy in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. We developed anti-BCMA/GPRC5D bispecific CARs to mitigate the limitations and potentiate the functions of CAR T cells.

Methods: This single-arm, phase 1 trial was conducted at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University (Xuzhou, China).

Electrospun nanofibers have been widely employed in bone tissue engineering for their ability to mimic the micro to nanometer scale network of the native bone extracellular matrix. However, the dense fibrous structure and limited mechanical support of these nanofibers pose challenges for the treatment of critical size bone defects. In this study, we propose a facile approach for creating a three-dimensional scaffold using interconnected electrospun nanofibers containing melatonin (Scaffold@MT).

Background: Identification of the causes of stroke of undetermined etiology, specifically cardioembolism (CE) and non-CE causes, can inform treatment planning and prognosis prediction. The objective of this study was to analyze the disparities in thrombus composition, particularly Semaphorin-7A (Sema7A) and CD163, between patients diagnosed with large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) and those with CE, and to investigate their potential association with prognosis.

Methods: Thrombi were collected from patients who underwent mechanical thrombectomy at two hospitals.

A Six-gene Prognostic Model Based on Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs)-related Gene Signature for Lung Adenocarcinoma.

Comb Chem High Throughput Screen

July 2024

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The Affiliated Changsha Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Changsha, 410005, Hunan, China.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the most common malignant cancers. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have been discovered to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of LUAD. We aimed to establish an innovative prognostic model for LUAD based on the distinct expression patterns of NETs-related genes.

BACKGROUND Combined retinal and choroidal detachment (RD-CD) poses significant challenges in ophthalmic treatment, often requiring surgical intervention for optimal outcomes. The selection of the appropriate surgical procedure is crucial for ensuring visual restoration and overall eye health. This study delves into the therapeutic benefits and outcomes of two distinct surgical approaches for RD-CD: pneumatic retinopexy (PR) followed by pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and PPV alone, in an attempt to guide optimal clinical decision-making.

Background And Purpose: Previous studies demonstrated that elevated brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level is associated with adverse clinical outcomes of acute cerebral infarction (ACI). Researchers hypothesized that BNP might be a potential neuroprotective factor against cerebral ischemia because of the antagonistic effect of the natriuretic peptide system on the renin-angiotensin system and regulation of cardiovascular homeostasis. However, whether decreasing the BNP level can improve the prognosis of ACI has not been studied yet.
