Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has emerged as an alternative, non-surgical treatment for high-risk patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with increased use over time. The American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Clinical Practice Standards Committee (CPSC) assembled an expert panel and conducted a systematic review of the literature evaluating the results of SABR, which is also referred to as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), prior to developing treatment recommendations for high-risk patients with stage I NSCLC based on expert consensus. Publications detailing the findings of 16 prospective studies of SABR and 14 retrospective studies of SABR for the management of early-stage lung cancer in 54 697 patients were identified by systematic review of the literature with further review by members of our expert panel.

Sublobar resection offers a parenchymal-sparing surgical alternative to lobectomy and includes wedge resection and segmentectomy. Sublobar resection has been historically utilized in high-risk patients with compromised lung function; however, the technique is becoming more prevalent for normal-risk patients with peripheral lung tumors < 2 cm. In this article, we summarize the technique of sublobar resection, the importance of surgical margins and lymph node sampling, patient selection, perioperative complications, outcomes, and the impact of sublobar resection on the quality of life.

Sex chromosomes follow distinct evolutionary trajectories compared to the rest of the genome. In many cases, sex chromosomes (X and Y or Z and W) significantly differentiate from one another resulting in heteromorphic sex chromosome systems. Such heteromorphic systems are thought to act as an evolutionary trap that prevents subsequent turnover of the sex chromosome system.

Background And Aims: Individuals with steatotic liver disease (SLD) are at high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, but approaches to characterise and mitigate this risk are limited. By investigating relations, and shared metabolic pathways, of hepatic steatosis/fibrosis and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), we sought to identify new avenues for CVD risk reduction in SLD.
Methods: In Framingham Heart Study (FHS) participants (N = 2722, age 54 ± 9 years, 53% women), vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) was performed between 2016-2019 to assess hepatic steatosis (continuous attenuation parameter [CAP]) and fibrosis (liver fibrosis measure [LSM]).

Immune persistence following primary vaccination with a single dose of meningococcal quadrivalent conjugate vaccines, MenACYW-TT/MCV4-CRM, at age 10-12 years was demonstrated. Most participants primed with MenACYW-TT and MCV4-CRM maintained seroprotective titers against all serogroups, suggesting continued protection. Priming with MenACYW-TT resulted in higher persistent titers for serogroups C, W, and Y than MCV4-CRM.

Despite multiple recent guidelines recommending the diagnosis and treatment of anemia before elective cardiac surgery, few institutions have formal programs or methods in place to accomplish this. A major limitation is the perceived financial shortfall and the leadership buy-in required to undertake such an initiative. The purpose of this advisory from the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) Clinical Practice Improvement Committee with endorsement by the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM) is to provide an overview of preoperative anemia management programs with an emphasis on the associated financial implications.

The reaction of Ag with Ru(CO) in a CO atmosphere under concommittant irradiation with UV-light yields a salt of the metal-only Lewis-pair [Ag{Ru(CO)}]. Switching the silver cation for a more process-selective deelectronator yields a salt of the homoleptic transition metal carbonyl cation [Ru(CO)], which fills the gap between the known cations [Ru(CO)] and [Ru(CO)]. The amount of π-backdonation in this series was studied by a combination of vibrational spectroscopy and computed relaxed force constants.

In the framework of SMD approach a systematic computational study of structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of molecular complexes of Cl, ICl and I with series of N-containing Lewis bases in solvents of different polarity was carried out. Results indicate that molecular complexes of Cl with strong and medium-strong LB undergo spontaneous ionization in the acetonitrile solution. The increase of the solvent polarity can change the nature of interaction in X'XLB systems from molecular X'X ← LB donor-acceptor complexes to 3-center 4-electron bound X'→X ← LB in solvents of medium polarity and to the contact ion pairs X'→[XLB] in polar solvents.
