Background: Reports of equivalent patient reported outcomes between anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) have contributed to a continued preference of rTSA. While many surgeons believe the best aTSA outcome can outperform the best rTSA outcome, this has not yet been demonstrated in the literature. The purpose of this study is to investigate the outcome characteristics of aTSA and rTSA patients who perceive their shoulder is close to normal, with the hypothesis that aTSA patients will outperform rTSA patients.

Despite aTSA being the mainstay of treatment for patients with glenohumeral arthritis in the absence of rotator cuff insufficiency, there has been an upward trend of rTSA utilization in the elderly due to concerns about rotator cuff integrity, regardless of deformity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate outcomes including pain, function, range of motion, satisfaction, and complications in patients 80 years or older following primary anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for osteoarthritis without full thickness rotator cuff tears.

Background: Approximately 90% of patients express concerns with sleep shortly after developing shoulder-related symptoms. Previous small cohort studies have demonstrated the impact of rotator cuff repair (RCR) on sleep, but none have characterized the observed benefits. The purpose of this study is to evaluate sleep improvement after rotator cuff repair including the speed of sleep recovery, the time at which improvement plateaus, and the longer-term maintenance of improved sleep.
