A poly(dibenzo-18-crown-6) was used as a new solid-phase extraction material for the selective enrichment of phosphopeptides. This work describes S-preactivated N-acetylcysteine (NAC)- and glutathione (GSH)-glycol chitosan (GC) polymer conjugates engineered as potential mucoadhesive platform. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the absence of water during the synthesis of thiolated poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) on its mucoadhesive properties. Previously, thiolation of hydrophilic polymers was performed in aqueous media, where (poly)acrylates undergo a conformational transition to form an entangled network of polymer chains stabilized by neutralization. The impact of chain entanglement, porosity and degree of functionalization of anhydrous precipitated polymers on their mucoadhesive characteristics were therefore evaluated in comparison to the equivalent products synthesized in water and dried by lyophilization.

Such surface or liquid phase studies are done with the aim to understand the fundamental mechanisms of DNA radiation damage and to improve cancer radiotherapy. When ionizing radiation is used, abundant secondary electrons are formed during the irradiation process, which are able to attach to the molecular compounds present on the surface.

We present a novel method for the quantitative determination of the clean-up efficiency to provide a calculated parameter for peak purity through iterative fitting in conjunction with design of experiments. Rosemary extracts were used and analyzed before and after solid-phase extraction using a self-fabricated mixed-mode sorbent based on poly(N-vinylimidazole/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate). Optimization was performed by variation of washing steps using a full three-level factorial design and response surface methodology.

The present randomized pilot intervention study examines the effects of a mindfulness-based self-leadership training (MBSLT) specifically developed for academic achievement situations. Both mindfulness and self-leadership have a strong self-regulatory focus and are helpful in terms of stress resilience and performance enhancements. Based on several theoretical points of contact and a specific interplay between mindfulness and self-leadership, the authors developed an innovative intervention program that improves mood as well as performance in a real academic setting.

We report the synthesis of atom-specifically 13C-modified building blocks that can be incorporated into DNA via solid phase synthesis to facilitate investigations on structural and dynamic features via NMR spectroscopy. In detail, 6-13C-modified pyrimidine and 8-13C purine DNA phosphoramidites were synthesized and incorporated into a polypurine tract DNA/RNA hybrid duplex to showcase the facile resonance assignment using site-specific labeling. The purpose of this study was to synthesize and characterize a novel thiolated glycogen, so-named S-preactivated thiolated glycogen, as a mucosal drug delivery systems and the assessment of its mucoadhesive properties. In this regard, glycogen-cysteine and glycogen-cysteine-2-mercaptonicotinic acid conjugates were synthesized. Glycogen was activated by an oxidative ring opening with sodium periodate resulting in reactive aldehyde groups to which cysteine was bound via reductive amination.

The "Innsbruck Goggle Experiments" on long-term wearing of reversing mirrors, prismatic and half prismatic goggles, and colored half goggles represent a milestone in research on adaptation (adapting to the introduced "disturbance") and after-effects (after removal of the "disturbance"). By means of these goggles it is, for example, possible to invert or distort the visual field (such as flipping top and bottom or left and right), as well as to observe how individuals learn to change the image back to vertical or recognize left and right. In detail, glycogen-cysteamine conjugates were synthesized through a first step of oxidative ring opening applying increasing concentrations of sodium periodate, to obtain polymers with different degrees of oxidation, and a second step of reductive amination with a constant amount of cysteamine. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) in combination with mass spectrometry (MS) is typically employed for mapping modifications in proteins and peptides. Here we applied a low-flow capillary electrophoresis (CE) -electrospray ionization interface coupled to Orbitrap mass spectrometers to analyze challenging modifications such as asparagine deamidation, aspartate isomerization, arginine citrullination, and phosphopeptide isomers. We achieved excellent resolution of asparagine (Asn), aspartic acid (Asp) and isoaspartic acid (iso-Asp) containing peptides using a synthetic peptide mixture.

  • Our research found notable changes in the EEG patterns of the PLP α-SYN model that align with findings from clinical studies, as well as age-dependent muscle activity during REM sleep, suggesting the model's validity for studying MSA.
  • We advocate for further investigation into our findings for their predictive validity in future studies and highlight the need for effective treatments, with our study possibly providing key biomarkers for drug development in MSA.

This study applies proton transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry for the rapid analysis of volatile compounds released from single coffee beans. The headspace volatile profiles of single coffee beans (Coffeea arabica) from different geographical origins (Brazil, Guatemala and Ethiopia) were analyzed via offline profiling at different stages of roasting. The effect of coffee geographical origin was reflected on volatile compound formation that was supported by one-way ANOVA.
