Introduction: Monitoring daily activities in older adults using sensor technologies has grown significantly over the past two decades, evolving from simple tools to advanced systems that integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) for predictive monitoring. Despite these advances, there is still a need for a comprehensive review that addresses both technological progress and its impact on autonomous aging.
Objective: To conduct a systematic review of sensor technologies used to monitor the daily activities of independent older adults, focusing on sensor types, applications, usage contexts, and their evolution over time.

Objective: To study the impact of age and the interval between disease diagnosis and death on the organotropism of SARS-CoV-2.
Method: Patients underwent post-mortem biopsies from lungs, Waldeyer ring, heart, liver, kidneys and bone marrow between 2020‒2021. SARS-CoV-2 organotropism was mapped by using molecular RT-PCR analyses for SARS-CoV2 targeting the Envelope gene (E), the RNA Polymerase Gene (RdRp), and the Nucleocapsid gene (N).

This observational, cross-sectional case-control study evaluates the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in elderly persons who have undergone surgery for adult spinal deformity (ASD). On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities first reported severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, and on March 11, 2020, it was declared a pandemic. The pandemic seems to have had a negative effect on elderly patients who underwent ASD, in terms of functional and psychological quality of life.

(1) Background: Large cohort studies of patients with COVID-19 treated with remdesivir have reported improved clinical outcomes, but data on older patients are scarce. Objective: This work aims to assess the potential benefit of remdesivir in unvaccinated very old patients hospitalized with COVID-19; (2) Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients ≥ 80 years hospitalized in Spain between 15 July and 31 December 2020 (SEMI-COVID-19 Registry). Differences in 30-day all-cause mortality were adjusted using a multivariable regression analysis.

Context: Harmonisation of outcome reporting and definitions for clinical trials and routine patient records can enable health care systems to provide more efficient outcome-driven and patient-centred interventions. We report on the work of the PIONEER Consortium in this context for prostate cancer (PCa).
Objective: To update and integrate existing core outcome sets (COS) for PCa for the different stages of the disease, assess their applicability, and develop standardised definitions of prioritised outcomes.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to analyze and report the clinical presentation and treatment at a single center of bull horn vascular injuries (BHVIs) that had occurred during popular celebrations in the past four decades. Thus, we investigated BHVIs in a high-volume academic center in Spain.
Methods: All the patients with a BHVI admitted between January 1980 and January 2021 were retrospectively enrolled in the present study.

Background: Patients with obesity have an increased risk for adverse COVID-19 outcomes. Body mass index (BMI) does not acknowledge the health burden associated this disease. The performance of the Edmonton Obesity Staging System (EOSS), a clinical classification tool that assesses obesity-related comorbidity, is compared with BMI, with respect to adverse COVID-19 outcomes.

Economic evaluation in health care is becoming increasingly important. Laparoscopic appendectomy (LAp) is one of the most frequent minimally invasive procedures in the pediatric population. The increased costs of this approach in any indication could be justified by proving its cost-utility in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQoL).

Schimmelpenning-Feuerstein-Mims (SFM) syndrome is a neurocutaneous disorder that can affect many body systems. The principal and most characteristic anomalies are craniofacial naevus sebaceous in association with neurological, ocular and skeletal findings. The presence of vascular malformations in this condition is unusual; nevertheless, vascular malformations have been suggested by many authors to be part of the spectrum of the same disease.

Objectives: Some researchers have observed an increased number of deaths during the follow-up of young patients who undergo aortic valve replacement due to severe aortic stenosis, suggesting that this procedure does not restore their life expectancy. Our goal was to confirm these findings and explore sex-based differences.
Methods: All patients between 50 and 65 years of age who underwent isolated aortic valve replacement in 27 Spanish centres during an 18-year period were included.

Background: Limited evidence exists on the role of glucose-lowering drugs in patients with COVID-19. Our main objective was to examine the association between in-hospital death and each routine at-home glucose-lowering drug both individually and in combination with metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted for COVID-19. We also evaluated their association with the composite outcome of the need for ICU admission, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, or in-hospital death as well as on the development of in-hospital complications and a long-time hospital stay.

Introduction: The risk of colon cancer is greater in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) than in the general population. Chromoendoscopy with dye (CE) is the currently recommended method for detecting dysplasia in screening colonoscopies in IBD patients; however, the role of virtual chromoendoscopy (VC) is not yet well defined.
Objective: The object of this study was to compare CE and VC with the iSCAN 1 system in the detection of neoplastic lesions in IBD patients.

Introduction: Since delirium is a major complication that can arise after a patient with a hip fracture has been hospitalized, it is considered to be one of the most common geriatric conditions. Therefore, its prevention and early detection are essential for reducing both the length of the patient's stay in the hospital and complications during the hospitalization process.
Objective: To identify and analyze the predictors for developing delirium in octogenarians who were admitted to hospital for a hip fracture.

It is unclear to which extent the higher mortality associated with hypertension in the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is due to its increased prevalence among older patients or to specific mechanisms. Cross-sectional, observational, retrospective multicenter study, analyzing 12226 patients who required hospital admission in 150 Spanish centers included in the nationwide SEMI-COVID-19 Network. We compared the clinical characteristics of survivors versus non-survivors.

Introduction: The efficacy and tolerability of trabectedin in patients with soft tissue sarcoma (STS) have been confirmed by various clinical studies involving lipo- and leiomyosarcomas as well as many other subtypes including translocation-related sarcomas. These data have been obtained from randomized phase II and III clinical trials. Studies in real-world clinical practice are necessary to bridge the efficacy-effectiveness gap and complete the body of evidence.
