A fast BEM (boundary element method) based approach is developed to solve an EEG/MEG forward problem for a modern high-resolution head model. The method utilizes a charge-based BEM accelerated by the fast multipole method (BEM-FMM) with an adaptive mesh pre-refinement method (called b-refinement) close to the singular dipole source(s). No costly matrix-filling or direct solution steps typical for the standard BEM are required; the method generates on-skin voltages as well as MEG magnetic fields for high-resolution head models within 90 s after initial model assembly using a regular workstation.

Background: Modeling brain stimulation at the microscopic scale may reveal new paradigms for various stimulation modalities.
Objective: We present the largest map to date of extracellular electric field distributions within a layer L2/L3 mouse primary visual cortex brain sample. This was enabled by the automated analysis of serial section electron microscopy images with improved handling of image defects, covering a volume of 250 × 140 × 90 μm³.

With the increasing age of our population, which is linked to a higher incidence of musculoskeletal diseases, there is a massive clinical need for bone implants. Porous scaffolds, usually offering a lower stiffness and allowing for the ingrowth of blood vessels and nerves, serve as an attractive alternative to conventional implants. Natural porous skeletons from marine sponges represent an array of evolutionarily optimized patterns, inspiring the design of biomaterials.

The application of distributed fiber optic strain and temperature measurement can be utilized to address a multitude of measurement tasks across a diverse range of fields, particularly in the context of structural health monitoring in the domains of building construction, civil engineering, and special foundation engineering. However, a comprehensive understanding of the influences on the measurement method and the sensors is essential to prevent misinterpretations or measurement deviations. In this context, this study investigated the effects of moisture exposure, including various salt solutions and a high pH value, on a distributed strain measurement using Rayleigh backscattering.

We investigated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lockdown, and social distancing on the well-being, media use, and emotions of children and adolescents between 9 and 18 years.
Methods: We used linear and proportional odds logistic regression correcting for age, sex, and socioeconomic status (SES) and to compare media use, peers/social support, physical, and psychological well-being between 2019 (pre-COVID baseline) and two time points shortly after the start of the lockdown (last week of March and April 2020, respectively) in 391 9-19-year-old healthy children and adolescents of the LIFE Child cohort.

The performance of artificial nerve guidance conduits (NGC) in peripheral nerve regeneration can be improved by providing structures with multiple small channels instead of a single wide lumen. 3D-printing is a strategy to access such multi-channeled structures in a defined and reproducible way. Correlative microscopy experiments require the co-registration of the image data acquired by different micro-analytical techniques. Major challenges are the potentially very different fields-of-view and resolutions as well as the multi-modality of the data. To provide microscopists with an easy-to-use software for two-dimensional image co-registration we have developed Correlia, an open source software based on ImageJ/Fiji, which is fully tailored for the registration of multi-modal microscopy data.

Aim: In spring 2020, the first Covid-19-related lockdown included the closing of kindergartens and schools. Home schooling, the lack of social contacts with peers and the care of the children at home posed an enormous challenge for many families.
Methods: The present study investigated the leisure behavior of 285 one- to 10-year-old German children at two time points (t1 and t2) during the Covid-19-related lockdown in spring 2020.
Despite the beneficial effects of physical activity (PA), only 26% of children in Germany meet the WHO's recommendations. Because active play contributes to PA and is accepted by families, the creation of "playable" environments could promote PA. This study is a natural experiment that was conducted to investigate whether slight changes in the physical environment can increase PA in children.

Whereas most previous studies assessed the more distant residential urban environment, less is known on possible effects of the close environment. The present study investigated associations of the proportion of streets and green spaces in the immediate urban living environment (50, 100 and 400 m around the home) with media use, outdoor activity, overweight/obesity and emotional problems in two samples of younger (age 3-10, = 395) and older children (age 10-19, = 405).

Background: We present an image dataset related to automated segmentation and counting of macrophages in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) tissue sections. For the classification of DLBCL subtypes, as well as for providing a prognosis of the clinical outcome, the analysis of the tumor microenvironment and, particularly, of the different types and functions of tumor-associated macrophages is indispensable. Until now, however, most information about macrophages has been obtained either in a completely indirect way by gene expression profiling or by manual counts in immunohistochemically (IHC) fluorescence-stained tissue samples while automated recognition of single IHC stained macrophages remains a difficult task.

Purpose: In revision total hip arthroplasty, until today, orthopaedic surgeons are missing evidence-based guidelines on cementless acetabular cup fixation.
Methods: 5 finite element models were generated featuring the following anchorage strategies: 1 short peg, 1 long peg, 2 long screws, 3 short screws and zero anchoring components for reference. The micromotions at the implant-bone interface were analyzed for 3 different loadcases, "Seated leg-crossing" (joint force 940 N, impingement force 750 N), "Normal gait" (joint force 1820 N), and "Stumbling" (joint force 4520 N).

The Internet offers the potential to efficaciously deliver health interventions at a low cost and with a low threshold across any distance. However, since many web-based interventions are confronted with low use and adherence, proactive dissemination strategies are needed. We, therefore, tested the efficacy of a 1-h patient education session as part of a rehabilitation program and an email reminder 4 weeks later on the publicity and use of a web-based intervention aimed at lifestyle changes in patients with either coronary heart disease or chronic back pain (CBP) and examined adherence predictors.
