Sofosbuvir, a nucleotide analogue, is an antiviral medication that belongs to the class of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). It is primarily used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. Sofosbuvir works by inhibiting the replication of HCV, disrupting its ability to produce RNA and effectively reducing the viral load in the body.

Biofilms formed by several bacterial strains still pose a significant challenge to healthcare due to their resistance to conventional treatment approaches, including antibiotics. This study explores the potential of loading natural extracts with antimicrobial activities into β-cyclodextrin (βCD) nanoparticles, which are FDA-approved and have superior biocompatibility owing to their cyclic sugar structures, for biofilm eradication. An inclusion complex of βCD carrying essential oils (BOS) was prepared and characterized with regard to its physicochemical properties, antimicrobial efficacy, and antibiofilm activities.

Radiation therapy (RT) is widely used for cancer treatment but is found with side effects of radiation dermatitis and fibrosis thereby calling for timely assessment. Nevertheless, current clinical assessment methods are found to be subjective, prone to bias, and accompanied by variability. There is, therefore, an unmet clinical need to explore a new assessment technique, ideally portable and affordable, making it accessible to less developed regions too.

Memristive technology mitigates the memory wall issue in von Neumann architectures by enabling in-memory data processing. Unlike traditional complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, memristors provide a new paradigm for implementing cryptographic functions and security considerations. While prior research explores memristors for cryptographic functions and side-channel attack vulnerabilities, our study uniquely addresses memristor-oriented countermeasures.

Envenomation accidents are usually diagnosed at the hospital through signs and symptoms assessment such as short breath, dizziness and vomiting, numbness, swilling, bruising, or bleeding around the affected site. However, this traditional method provides inaccurate diagnosis given the interface between snakebites and scorpion stings symptoms. Therefore, early determination of bites/stings source would help healthcare professionals select the suitable treatment for patients, thus improving envenomation management.

Quantum walks on photonic platforms represent a physics-rich framework for quantum measurements, simulations and universal computing. Dynamic reconfigurability of photonic circuitry is key to controlling the walk and retrieving its full operation potential. Universal quantum processing schemes based on time-bin encoding in gated fibre loops have been proposed but not demonstrated yet, mainly due to gate inefficiencies.

This innovative method enables precise focus control within a monolithic metafiber device by allowing light coupled into any of the 37 cores to be precisely focused at predefined locations. Our approach demonstrates significant advances over conventional lenses and offers unique functionalities through computationally designed holograms.

The design and development of particulate photocatalysts has been an attractive strategy to incorporate earth-abundant metal ions to water splitting devices. Herein, we synthesized CoFe-Prussian blue (PB) coated ZnO origami core-shell nanostructures (PB@ZnO) with different mass ratio of PB components and investigated their photocatalytic water oxidation activities in the presence of an electron scavenger. Photocatalytic experiments reveal that the integration of PB on ZnO boosts the oxygen evolution rate by a factor of ~2.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer globally. The most common routine diagnostic methods are the examination of the interior of the colon during colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, which frequently includes the removal of a biopsy sample. Optical methods, such as Raman spectroscopy (RS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT), can help to improve diagnostics and reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies.

Heme is involved in many critical processes in pathogenic bacteria as iron acquisition by these microorganisms is achieved by either direct uptake of heme or use of heme-binding proteins called hemophores. Exploring the underlying mechanisms on a molecular level can open new avenues in understanding the host-pathogen interactions. Any imbalance of the heme concentration has a direct impact on the bacterial growth and survival.

Conventional laser panel displays are developed through the mass integration of electrically pumped lasers or through the incorporation of a beam steering system with an array of optically pumped lasers. Here a novel configuration of a laser panel display consisting of a non-steered pumping beam and an array of electrically Q-switchable lasers is reported. The laser oscillator consists of a robust, self-standing, and deformable minute droplet that emits laser through Whispering-Gallery Mode resonance when optically pumped.

Attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectroscopy in infrared is a standard tool used in most analytical labs, as it allows a rapid chemical analysis with virtually no sample preparation. However, when the sample contains materials with a high refractive index, special care must be taken as the resulting data may be severely biased. This article reports a theoretical approach to correcting distorted ATR spectra.
