Juices of Brassica vegetables are mutagenic and form characteristic DNA adducts in bacteria and mammalian cells. In this study, we examined whether such adducts are also formed in vivo in animal models. Concepts of semi-closed greenhouses can be used to save energy, whereas their technical equipment often causes a decrease in the light received by the plants. Nevertheless, higher yields are achieved, which are presumably triggered by a higher CO concentration in the greenhouse and associated higher photosynthesis because of the technical cooling and the longer period of closed ventilation. AG1-IB of the phylum Basidiomycota is known as phytopathogenic fungus affecting various economically important crops, such as bean, rice, soybean, figs, cabbage and lettuce. The isolates 1/2/21 and O8/2 of the anastomosis group AG1-IB originating from lettuce plants with bottom rot symptoms represent two less aggressive isolates, as confirmed in a pathogenicity test on lettuce. Nowadays the importance of selenium for human health is widely known, but most of the plants are poor in terms of selenium storage and accumulation because of the low selenium mineralization potential of the soil. Fungus-bacterium interactions are widespread, encompass multiple interaction types from mutualism to parasitism, and have been frequent targets for microbial inoculant development. In this study, using in vitro systems combined with confocal laser scanning microscopy and real-time quantitative PCR, we test whether the nitrogen-fixing bacterium can provide protection to the plant-beneficial fungus , which inhabits the rhizosphere and colonizes plants as an endophyte, from the fungus-feeding bacterium . We show that can protect fungal hyphae from bacterial feeding on solid agar medium, with probable mechanisms being quick hyphal colonization and biofilm formation.

Besides their positive physiological effects, ITC are electrophilic and can undergo reactions with food components such as proteins. Following the trend of improving traditional food products with GLS-rich ingredients, interactions of ITC with proteins can diminish the properties of both components-protein's value and functionality as well as ITC's bioactivity.
