The nasal and fecal swabs were collected during the veterinary treatment of calf pneumonia and calf diarrhea.

The rising incidence of head and neck cancer represents a serious global health challenge, requiring more accurate diagnosis and innovative surgical approaches. Multimodal nonlinear optical microscopy, combining coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS), two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF), and second-harmonic generation (SHG) with deep learning-based analysis routines, offers label-free assessment of the tissue's morphochemical composition and allows early-stage and automatic detection of disease. For clinical intraoperative application, compact devices are required.

We propose a new way of deriving the effective thickness in attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectroscopy, initially introduced by Hansen and Harrick in 1965. While following Hansen's approach, our derivation is more straightforward and includes an intermediate approximation that more closely aligns with results derived from Fresnel's equations, particularly for organic and biological materials. Using this intermediate approximation, we present improved estimations for the effective thicknesses with - and -polarized light.

Self-rectifying memristive devices have emerged as promising contenders for low-power in-memory computing, presenting numerous advantages. We have specified and obtained a ZnSe prism with an unconventional face angle cut to 30°. This prism, with internal incidence angles ranging from 30° to 48°, allows users to record internal reflection spectra below the critical angle and attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectra above the critical angle without the need to change optics or move or replace the sample. We demonstrate its capabilities using 102 spectra of benzyl benzoate taken with - and -polarization at different angles of incidence.

This work reports on an in vivo Raman-based endoscopy system, invaScope, enabling Raman measurements of healthy and tumor bladder tissue during an endoscopic procedure in the operating theatre. The presented study outlines the progression from the initial concept (validated through previously performed ex vivo studies) to the approval and implementation of a clinical investigational device according to the requirement within the framework of the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR2017/745). The study's primary objective was to employ the invaScope Raman system within the bladder, capturing in vivo spectroscopic Raman data followed by standard histo- and cytopathological examinations of urological tissue (considered the gold standard).

However, controlling the crystallization and morphologies of metal-free molecular nanostructures with exceptional photocatalytic activities toward CO reduction remains a significant challenge. These hurdles encompass insufficient CO activation potential, sluggish multielectron processes, delayed charge-separation kinetics, inadequate storage of long-lived photoexcitons, unfavorable thermodynamic conditions, and the precise control of product selectivity.

We present an attenuated total reflection (ATR) correction scheme capable of rectifying ATR spectra while considering the polarization state for arbitrary angles of incidence, provided that this angle exceeds the critical angle for the entire ATR spectrum. Due to its reliance on the weak absorption approximation, it cannot achieve perfect correction of the ATR spectra. However, comprehending its functionality may offer valuable insights into the concept behind the weak absorption approximation.

The immobilization of molecular electrocatalysts on conductive electrodes is an appealing strategy for enhancing their overall activity relative to those of analogous molecular compounds. In this study, we report on the interfacial electrochemistry of self-assembled two-dimensional nanosheets of graphene nanoribbons () and analogs containing a Rh-based hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst () immobilized on conductive electrodes. Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) taking place at N-centers of the nanoribbons was utilized as an indirect reporter of the interfacial electric fields experienced by the monolayer nanosheet located within the electric double layer.

Using linear dichroism theory, one would assume that a z-cut of a uniaxial crystal is equivalent to an x-cut to determine the perpendicular component of the dielectric tensor and the corresponding oscillator parameters. However, Fresnel's equations show that the effect of interfaces in the form of the continuity relations of the different components of the electric field must be considered. A consequence of the continuity relations is that perpendicular modes increase less significantly in strength with increasing angle of incidence than expected.
