Objective: Estimation of the specific thresholds of the Caprini risk score (CRS) that are associated with the increased incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) across different specialties, including identifying the highest level of risk.
Background: Accurate risk assessment remains an important but often challenging aspect of VTE prophylaxis. One well-established risk assessment model is CRS, which has been validated in thousands of patients from many different medical and surgical specialties.

Purpose: In computer surgical planned (CSP) fibular reconstructions of the mandible, custom plates facilitate accurate and efficient transfer of the digital plan intraoperatively by a way of predrilled fixation holes. Stock plates are more easily accessible and are more economical but typically preclude the utilization of these predictive holes. The purpose of this article is to describe an accurate and economical alternative to custom plates, while still having the ability to create predictive holes for plate alignment and execution of a digital surgical plan.

Disability is an important and often overlooked component of diversity. Individuals with disabilities bring a rare perspective to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) because of their unique experiences approaching complex issues related to health and disability, navigating the healthcare system, creatively solving problems unfamiliar to many individuals without disabilities, managing time and resources that are limited by physical or mental constraints, and advocating for themselves and others in the disabled community. Yet, individuals with disabilities are underrepresented in STEMM.

Adults with dialysis-dependent ESKD experience higher rates of depression than the general population, yet efficacy of depression treatments in this population is not well understood. We conducted a systematic review of the benefits and harms of depression treatment in adults with ESKD. We searched multiple data sources through June 2020 for English-language, controlled trials that compared interventions for depression in adults with ESKD to another intervention, placebo, or usual care, and reported depression treatment-related outcomes.

Background And Objectives: Patients with kidney failure experience depression at rates higher than the general population. Despite the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' ESRD Quality Incentive Program requirements for routine depression screening for patients with kidney failure, no clear guidance exists.
Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: For this systematic review, we searched MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and other databases from inception to June 2020.

Purpose: The Jaw in a Day (JIAD) procedure allows for complete primary reconstruction of bone and teeth during the same operation as tumor resection. We reviewed 12 cases, the largest published case series of the JIAD procedure, and discussed both the prosthodontic and surgical considerations.
Materials And Methods: A multi-institutional retrospective chart review was completed to identify patients undergoing the JIAD procedure.

Introduction: Recent studies suggest survival benefit of breast conservation over mastectomy. We evaluated distant recurrence (DR) rates after breast-conservation therapy (BCT) versus mastectomy in our community-based cancer institute.
Methods: A retrospective review of patients undergoing treatment of Stage 0-3 breast cancer from January, 2002 to December, 2011 was performed.

The fibula free flap is a workhorse flap used to reconstruct ablative, osseous defects in the upper and lower jaws. Traditionally, the fibula free flap is inset into the defect freehand; dental implants are placed secondarily; and final prosthetic rehabilitation often occurs more than 1 year after ablative surgery. Virtual surgical planning and rapid prototyping of cutting guides and guide stents for head and neck reconstruction have facilitated improved accuracy in fibular transfer.

Background: Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a mammographic technique which improves the detection of breast cancer. Architectural distortion of malignancy may be occult on 2D mammography and ultrasound but detected by DBT.
Methods: 110 patients who underwent 116 DBT-guided needle biopsies for architectural distortion were identified between June 2014 and August 2017 and underwent review of medical records.

Purpose: Previously described techniques for microvascular fibula reconstruction of Brown Class II to IV maxillectomy defects are complex, require multiple osteotomies, result in a short pedicle, and inadequately reconstruct the dental alveolus in preparation for endosseous implants. This report describes a simplified technique for Brown Class II to IV defects that re-creates facial support, allows for dental reconstruction with appropriately positioned implants, and maintains adequate pedicle length.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of all patients with Brown Class II to IV maxillectomy defects immediately reconstructed with a biaxial double-barrel fibula flap technique.

The radial forearm flap is a versatile reconstructive option for oral cavity defects with highly reliable success rates. We encountered more than one flap compromise when we used a radial forearm flap to reconstruct the soft tissue and provide coverage over the mandible, after a marginal mandibulectomy. From this observation, we modified our technique for radial forearm harvest and inset to avoid placing the pedicle in compression against the mandible.

Background: Transitioning activities that do not require clinical judgment from pharmacists to pharmacy technicians has been endorsed as a strategy to increase patient access to clinical pharmacy services. One role becoming increasingly common is using pharmacy technicians to collect the medication history within medication reconciliation processes.
Objective: To assess the ability of pharmacy technicians to gather a complete and accurate medication history during the inpatient admission process at a regional medical center.

Purpose: Virtual surgical planning (VSP) is an indispensable aid in craniomaxillofacial reconstruction, yet no protocol is established in facial gunshot wounds. We review our experience with computer-aided reconstruction of self-inflicted facial gunshot wounds (SIGSW'S) and propose a protocol for the staged repair.
Methods: A retrospective case series enrolling patients with SIGSW's managed with the Functional Anatomic Computer Engineered Surgical protocol (FACES) was implemented.

Nulliparous women underwent a standardized protocol of pelvic floor evaluations between January 2008 and December 2013, prior to pregnancy (V1) and at 2 points postpartum: 6 weeks (V2) and 6 months (V3).
