Bone infection is a catastrophe in clinical orthopedics. Despite being the standard therapy for osteomyelitis, antibiotic-loaded polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) cement has low efficiency against bacteria in biofilms. Furthermore, high-dose antibiotic-loaded implants carry risks of bacterial resistance, tissue toxicity, and impairment of local tissue healing.

Colibacillosis caused by avian pathogenic (APEC) is causing economic losses to the global poultry industry. Increased prevalence of antibiotic resistance in APEC is the leading cause for increased indiscriminate use of various antimicrobial compounds in farms. The study aimed to investigate the presence of phenotypic and genotypic markers for antibiotic resistance, metals, and biocides in APEC from Bangladeshi poultry and details about the antimicrobials used in poultry farms.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a lasting legacy on human health, extending beyond the acute phase of infection. This article explores the evidence suggesting that SARS-CoV-2 infection can induce persistent epigenetic modifications, particularly in DNA methylation patterns, with potential long-term consequences for individuals' health and aging trajectories. The review discusses the potential of DNA methylation-based biomarkers, such as epigenetic clocks, to identify individuals at risk for accelerated aging and tailor personalized interventions.

Cutaneous burn trauma, compromise of dermal layers and immune defense system is a physical and fiscal burden on healthcare systems. Burn-wound infections are a serious complication of thermal injury and contribute significantly to care burden. After burn-induced trauma, sepsis by Pseudomonas aeruginosa impairs patient recovery and contributes to mortality and morbidity.

Introduction complex(BCC) is one of the most common polymyxin-resistant Gram-negative bacilli isolated in the clinical microbiological laboratory. They are often underreported when conventional biochemicals are used for identification, due to their similarity to other non-fermenting bacilli. It is essential to identify BCC using simple biochemical tests with good reliability to ease the identification of BCC in resource-limited settings and initiate treatment.

The evolution of cardiovascular diagnostics has been profoundly influenced by the invention of the sphygmomanometer, a groundbreaking tool that transformed the measurement of blood pressure from an imprecise and invasive process into a routine and reliable clinical practice. Scipione Riva-Rocci, an Italian physician, developed the mercury sphygmomanometer in 1896, revolutionizing the way blood pressure was measured and managed. This simple yet innovative device, comprising an inflatable cuff, a mercury column manometer, and a stethoscope, provided the first accurate, noninvasive method for measuring blood pressure.

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global issue that needs addressing. While antibiotic stewardship has improved often by restricting antibiotic use, some antibiotics that are still sold legally over the counter (OTC), notably in sore throat medications. Recent findings suggest OTC antibiotics could trigger cross-resistance to antibiotics used in clinical treatments, whether systemic or topical.

Importance: The Medicare Competitive Bidding Program (CBP), a policy that reduced durable medical equipment prices, was implemented starting in 2011. Legislation introduced in 2024 aims to remove supplemental oxygen from the CBP because of concerns that recent decreases in oxygen prescribing are due to lower prices set by the CBP, which may have decreased supply and, in turn, limited oxygen access for patients with chronic lung diseases. However, low-value prescribing of oxygen is also prevalent in practice, and decreased oxygen prescription rates may not have necessarily caused harm.

Introduction: Indigenous peoples in Canada have a higher cancer burden and shorter life expectancy compared to the non-Indigenous population. Canada's colonial legacy has resulted in many Indigenous people experiencing high mistrust in healthcare providers which can result in healthcare avoidance, such as delays seeking preventative care as well as lower screening rates. This may be compounded by language barriers as well as a lack of culturally safe care in healthcare settings.
