Post-COVID-19 condition (also known as long COVID) is generally defined as symptoms persisting for 3 months or more after acute COVID-19. Long COVID can affect multiple organ systems and lead to severe and protracted impairment of function as a result of organ damage. The burden of this disease, both on the individual and on health systems and national economies, is high.

In patients with high body mass index (BMI)/body mass undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is an increase in strain placed on the implant fixation interfaces. As such, component fixation is a potential concern when performing TKA in the obese patient.

Glucocorticoid (stress hormones) activation by the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) also impairs healing. We recently reported that 11β-HSD1 inhibition with oral AZD4017 improves acute wound healing by manual 2D optical coherence tomography (OCT), although this method is subjective and labour-intensive.

Extracellular vesicles (EV) and the microRNAs that they contain are increasingly recognised as a rich source of informative biomarkers, reflecting pathological processes and fundamental biological pathways and responses. Their presence in biofluids makes them particularly attractive for biomarker identification. However, a frequent caveat in relation to clinical studies is low abundance of EV RNA content.

Osteomalacia is a condition where bone mineralisation is impaired by lack of vitamin D. It more commonly affects darker skinned individuals in the UK, especially if they wear occlusive clothing. Lifestyle changes and Vitamin D supplementation are recommended for those people most at risk through these factors, but such advice is not commonly followed.

A randomized, double-blind trial was conducted, comparing baricitinib ( = 487), adalimumab ( = 330), and placebo ( = 488) plus methotrexate. Pain was evaluated by patient's assessment on a 0-100 mm visual analog scale (VAS).
