Heart rhythm management is a continuously evolving sub-speciality of cardiology. Every year, many physicians and allied professionals (APs) start and complete their training in cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) or electrophysiology (EP) across the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) member countries. While this training ideally ends with an EHRA certification, the description of the learning pathway (what, how, when, and where) through an EHRA core curriculum is also a prerequisite for a successful training.

With the global prevalence of diabetes increasing, more people of reproductive age are experiencing hyperglycaemic pregnancies. Maternal Type 1 (T1DM) or Type 2 (T2DM) diabetes mellitus, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are associated with maternal cardiovascular and metabolic complications. Pregnancies complicated by maternal diabetes also increase the risk of short- and long-term health complications for the offspring, including altered fetal growth and the onset of T2DM and cardiometabolic diseases throughout life.

This study aimed to examine different trajectory correction methods for spiral imaging on a preclinical scanner with high-performance gradients with respect to image quality in a phantom and in vivo. The gold standard method of measuring the trajectories in a separate experiment is compared to an isotropic delay-correction, a correction using the gradient system transfer function (GSTF), and a combination of the two. Three different spiral trajectories, with 96, 16, and three interleaves, are considered.

Background: The the current views of less-than full-time (LTFT) training by both LTFT and full-time (FT) doctors in training, with regards to health and well-being, clinical and non-clinical opportunities, in addition to associated future workforce implications and challenges, are uncertain.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of UK-based doctors in training via an online questionnaire, designed and piloted by the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh (RCPE) Trainees and Members Committee. Design was informed by prior investigation into LTFT training undertaken amongst similar populations by RCPE in 2019.

Lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) is a bioactive lipid present at high concentrations in inflamed and injured tissues where it contributes to the initiation and maintenance of pain. One of its important molecular effectors is the transient receptor potential canonical 5 (TRPC5), but the explicit mechanism of the activation is unknown. Using electrophysiology, mutagenesis and molecular dynamics simulations, we show that LPC-induced activation of TRPC5 is modulated by xanthine ligands and depolarizing voltage, and involves conserved residues within the lateral fenestration of the pore domain.

Rationale: Major lower limb amputation (LLA, above the ankle) is performed for people with intractable pain, life-threatening infections, or non-functional limbs. Of 7500 LLAs carried out in England between 2015 and 2018, the majority of these were performed in dysvascular patients.
