Autoimmune brainstem encephalitis (BSE) is a rare neurological condition with a wide range of underlying etiologies. It can be subdivided into two broad groups: a primary inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) or a brainstem disorder secondary to systemic diseases where the CNS is only one of many affected organs. Symptoms range from mild to life-threatening manifestations.

Purpose: This work aims to assess the value of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) as an adjunctive therapy in advanced Coats disease with exudative retinal detachment (ERD).
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of patients with Coats disease stage 3 or higher who received IVTA to decrease subretinal fluid (SRF), facilitate retinal ablative therapy, and avoid surgical drainage. Primary outcomes were SRF resolution and avoidance of surgical SRF drainage.

Although primarily affecting the respiratory system, COVID-19 causes multiple organ damage. One of its grave consequences is a prothrombotic state that manifests as thrombotic, microthrombotic and thromboembolic events. Therefore, understanding the effect of antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapy in the context of COVID-19 treatment is important.

Several studies have been conducted to investigate the relation between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level and diabetic neuropathy (DN). However, there is still no clear conclusion due to differences in study design and cut-off values used in the published work, in addition to the absence of a comprehensive meta-analysis (MA) on the topic. The present systematic review and MA therefore aims at clarifying the association between vitamin D level and peripheral DN in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

We describe herein the case of a 38-year-old woman with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer who developed seizures and somnolence twelve days after receiving the first dose of Atezolizumab. Work up ruled out all infectious etiologies, and the patient was eventually diagnosed with immune-mediated meningoencephalitis.

Objective: The diabetic foot disease is one of the most serious complications of diabetes causing high rates of amputations, premature deaths and healthcare cost. While standard non-surgical care is the mainstay of treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), many reports demonstrated that conservative surgery particularly in the forefoot, compared better in terms of clinical outcomes. Nevertheless, the quality of surgical articles dealing with diabetic ulcers of the forefoot is thought to be average.

Purpose: Constitutional mismatch repair deficiency syndrome (CMMRD) is a lethal cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by early-onset synchronous and metachronous multiorgan tumors. We designed a surveillance protocol for early tumor detection in these individuals.
Patients And Methods: Data were collected from patients with confirmed CMMRD who were registered in the International Replication Repair Deficiency Consortium.

Background: Our aim was to examine whether the length of stay, hospital charges and in-hospital mortality attributable to healthcare- and community-associated infections due to antimicrobial-resistant bacteria were higher compared with those due to susceptible bacteria in the Lebanese healthcare settings using different methodology of analysis from the payer perspective .
Methods: We performed a multi-centre prospective cohort study in ten hospitals across Lebanon. The sample size consisted of 1289 patients with documented healthcare-associated infection (HAI) or community-associated infection (CAI).

Proximal humerus fracture is a common orthopedic presentation, with bimodal age distribution. On the other hand, bilateral proximal humerus fracture dislocation is a rarely reported pathology, especially when it is not the result of direct trauma. We present a case of a 71-year-old female patient found to have simultaneous bilateral 4-part proximal humerus fractures following status epilepticus treated surgically with bilateral reverse shoulder arthroplasty with constraint and soft tissue release.

Papillary tumors of the pineal region (PTPR) can be observed among adults with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates. Standards of therapy involve total surgical excision along with radiation therapy, with no promising prospects for primary adjuvant chemotherapy, as long-term treatment options have not been explored. Chromosome 10 loss is characteristic of PTPR, and gene alterations are frequently encountered in a wide range of human cancers and may be treated with mTORC1 inhibitors such as everolimus.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is a small-vessel vasculitis with cutaneous, articular, gastrointestinal, and renal manifestations. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis and IgA deposits are classically found when involved skin and kidneys are biopsied. The disease's etiology remains unknown, although many bacterial and viral infections have been described as triggering factors.

Electrophysiology plays a determinant role in Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) diagnosis, classification, and prognostication. However, traditional electrodiagnostic (EDX) criteria for GBS rely on motor nerve conduction studies (NCS) and are suboptimal early in the course of the disease or in the setting of GBS variants. Sensory nerve conduction studies, including the sural-sparing pattern and the sensory ratio are not yet included in EDX criteria despite their well-established role in GBS diagnosis.

The standard medical care (SC) of non-infected diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) has been reported to yield varying rates of wound healing with high recurrence rate in non-infected wounds. Conservative surgery has been advanced as an alternative to SC in treating resistant non-complicated and complicated DFUs. Studies reporting resection arthroplasty (RA) of the first metatarsal head stated high healing rates with less recurrence.

Background: Osteomyelitis of the diabetic foot is a very challenging condition and amputation is often indicated. In some cases where the infection is localized and the surrounding soft tissue is mildly involved, an internal pedal amputation (IPA) based on resection and limited excision of the infected bone have been suggested as a viable option. This systematic review aims to look for the effectiveness of this technique in treating selected cases of diabetic foot osteomyelitis.

The Unites States spends on healthcare, with women's health being included, more than what middle-to-low-income countries, such as Lebanon, do. Compared to the United States, Lebanon has negligible data on the amounts spent on healthcare including female health services. In this study, we try to assess the cost differences of common gynecologic procedures between Lebanon and the United States, trying to fill the gap of missing data in Lebanon and identifying potential factors that can lead to high healthcare cost in the United States.

Anemia was found to be prevalent in patients with diabetes mellitus. Higher rates of anemia were reported in patients having diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). With the presence of an altered microcirculation, the potential negative effects of anemia might impede ulcer healing leading to higher rates of amputation and mortality.

Purpose: The pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, antimicrobial activity, efficacy, safety, and current regulatory status of imipenem/cilastatin/relebactam are reviewed.
Summary: Imipenem/cilastatin/relebactam is a newly approved anti-infective combination of a well-established β-lactam and a new β-lactamase inhibitor for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs), including pyelonephritis, and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs) caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria in patients 18 years of age or older with limited or no alternative treatment options. The antibiotic is also indicated for the treatment of hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP).

Background: Anconeus epitrochlaeris muscle and Osborne's ligament are anatomical variants that are occasionally found at the cubital tunnel of the elbow. In certain individuals, these two structures may compress the ulnar nerve resulting in a cubital tunnel syndrome. Although these variants have been reported extensively, its prevalence is still unclear and its contribution to cubital tunnel syndrome is debatable.
