Concurrent Diagnosis of Adenomyosis and Congenital Uterine Anomalies: A Review.

Adenomyosis and congenital uterine anomalies (CUAs) can compromise reproductive potential and may coexist in the same patient, especially in cases of infertility. This review (CRD42022382850) aims to evaluate the published cases of concurrent adenomyosis and syndromic and nonsyndromic CUAs. A literature search for suitable articles published in the English language was performed using the following databases from inception to 30 November 2022: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, the Cochrane Library, Health Technology Assessment Database, and Web of Science.

Hysterectomy Using Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery Compared with Classic Laparoscopic Hysterectomy: A New Advantageous Approach? A Systematic Review on Surgical Outcomes.

Introduction: Minimally invasive surgery aims to reduce surgical trauma and post-operative morbidity. Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery is a safe and valid surgical option for hysterectomy. The present systematic review aims to compare hysterectomy by transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) with laparoscopic hysterectomy in terms of efficacy, surgical outcomes, complications, and cost.

Aortic dissection presenting as a stroke: a case report.

Aortic dissection is an uncommon yet frequently fatal illness. Patients generally present with tearing chest pain with possible acute hemodynamic instability. Hence, early diagnosis and intervention is critical for survival.

Outcomes of three cannulated screws in a modified triangular transverse configuration for fixation of intra-capsular femoral neck fractures.

Background: Intra-capsular femoral neck fractures (FNF) are commonly encountered in trauma settings and are associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. One of the most used methods of FNF treatment is the use of multiple cannulated screws. Many different screw constructs are reported in the literature, with no evidence of superiority of one construct over others.

Traumatic Brain Injury and Opioids: Twin Plagues of the Twenty-First Century.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and opioid use disorder (OUD) comprise twin plagues causing considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide. As interactions between TBI and OUD are to our knowledge uncharted, we review the possible mechanisms by which TBI may stimulate the development of OUD and discuss the interaction or crosstalk between these two processes. Central nervous system damage due to TBI appears to drive adverse effects of subsequent OUD and opioid use/misuse affecting several molecular pathways.

Consensus on the management of platinum-sensitive high-grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer in Lebanon.

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. The high grade serous epithelial (HGSE) subtype is the most aggressive and it often presents at advanced stages, while screening programs have not proven beneficial. Management of the advanced stages (FIGO III and IV), which constitute the majority of diagnoses, usually consists of platinum-based chemotherapy and cytoreductive surgery (primary or interval) followed by maintenance therapy.

Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis (OHVIRA) syndrome is a rare congenital defect of the Mullerian ducts characterized by uterine didelphys, unilateral obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal agenesis. It frequently presents during puberty, with complications such as pelvic pain, pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. Surgical management is the mainstay treatment.

The association between sleep disturbances and blood pressure variability: a review of the literature.

Study Objectives: Sleep disturbances are an underrecognized public health issue that results in various adverse outcomes and disturbed quality of life. Blood pressure variability (BPV) is an emerging entity in assessing cardiovascular disease risk and accumulating evidence suggests that BPV is closely associated with end-organ damage. Frequency and mutational spectrum of PIK3CA gene mutations in breast cancer patients: Largest and first report from Lebanon.

The PIK3CA pathway is one of the most frequently altered pathways in human cancers, especially in breast cancer with approximately 40% of HR+/HER2- advanced breast cancer cases exhibiting mutations in the PIK3CA gene. While the mutations can occur across the entire gene, the most common are observed in exon 9 corresponding to the helical domain, and in exon 20 encompassing the kinase domain. This study constitutes the first attempt at determining the frequency and mutational spectrum in Lebanese breast cancer patients.

Bilateral Quadriceps Tendon Rupture in a Healthy Individual Following a Motor Vehicle Accident: A Case Report.

Bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture (QTR) is a rare injury that typically affects middle-aged men presenting underlying medical conditions, while only a few cases have been reported in healthy individuals. The gold standard treatment of such injuries is prompt surgical repair, followed by postoperative immobilization and physiotherapy. We present the case of a 51-year-old previously healthy man who experienced bilateral, simultaneous, and complete QTR following a high-velocity motor vehicle accident.

"In Situ" Methotrexate Injection Followed by Hysteroscopic Resection for Caesarean Scar Pregnancy: A Single-Center Experience.

Background: We evaluated the efficacy of local methotrexate (MTX) treatment followed by hysteroscopic resection for caesarean scar pregnancy and its impact on future fertility.

Methods: Monocentric, prospective, observational study performed in the Haykel Hospital between June 2016 and December 2020. Twenty-one women with caesarean scar pregnancy underwent a transcutaneous ultrasound-guided direct injection of MTX into the gestational sac in an outpatient setting.

Diagnosis and management of patients with stage III non‑small cell lung cancer: A joint statement by the Lebanese Society of Medical Oncology and the Lebanese Pulmonary Society (Review).

Proper management of stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) might result in a cure or patient long-term survival. Management should therefore be preceded by adequate and accurate diagnosis and staging, which will inform therapeutic decisions. A panel of oncologists, surgeons and pulmonologists in Lebanon convened to establish a set of recommendations to guide and unify clinical practice, in alignment with international standards of care.

Learning Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy: Are We Facing an Emerging Situation?
