Manganese (Mn) is a neurotoxicant that, due to its paramagnetic property, also functions as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T1 contrast agent. Previous studies in Mn toxicity have shown that Mn accumulates in the brain, which may lead to parkinsonian symptoms. In this article, we trained support vector machines (SVM) using whole-brain R1 (R1 = 1/T1) maps from 57 welders and 32 controls to classify subjects based on their air Mn concentration ([Mn]), Mn brain accumulation (ExMn), gross motor dysfunction (UPDRS), thalamic GABA concentration (GABA), and total years welding.

Medulla oblongata myelinolysis is an extremely rare manifestation of extrapontine myelinolysis (EPM). Herein, we report a case of a 34-year-old man with a history of gout who presented repeated vomiting and diarrhea after ingesting 15 colchicine pills. A hyponatremia diagnosis was given and after an intensive treatment, his serum sodium level increased from 118 to 129 mmol/L within 24 hours.

Objective: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is one of the most common poisonings worldwide. The affinity of hemoglobin for CO is significantly higher than that for oxygen, and the formation of carboxy-hemoglobin leads to a decrease in the capacity of blood to transport oxygen to tissues, tissue hypoxia, and early perfusion changes in the affected tissue. This study aimed to investigate the utility of arterial spin labeling perfusion imaging (ASL-PI) in revealing cerebral vascular hemodynamic changes in patients presenting to the emergency room with CO poisoning and to compare findings with those from diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).

Case reports are rare, and official guidelines are needed to help medical teams choose proper treatment options.

A population segment that is particularly vulnerable to the negative consequences of lead exposure is the human fetus, as exposure events occurring before birth are linked to varied and long-ranging negative health and behavioral outcomes. Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a neurotoxic state accompanied by unique brain imaging patterns and neurologic abnormalities, typically associated with several complex clinical conditions such as preeclampsia/eclampsia, solid-organ transplant procedures, autoimmune diseases, and immunosuppressive agents. The detailed mechanism of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is not known, and the current therapy is only supportive care. Here, we present a 33-year-old parturient woman with preeclampsia complicated with hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet syndrome, fulminant hepatitis B, acute fatty liver, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome.
