Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of 2 interventions for caregivers of patients with acquired brain injury (ABI) transitioning home after inpatient rehabilitation, to prepare them for the role of caregiving and reduce stress and depression.
Design: Controlled trial with participants randomly assigned to (1) usual care (UC), (2) clinician-delivered Problem-Solving Training (PST), or (3) peer-led Building Better Caregivers (BBC) training; both experimental interventions initiated during the inpatient rehabilitation stay, delivered virtually, of similar intensity (six 60-minute sessions), and focused on managing stress and building skills related to caregiving.
Setting: Nonprofit rehabilitation hospital specializing in care of persons with acquired brain and spinal cord injuries.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee affects millions of people with sizable socioeconomic burden. Conventional treatment modalities are prioritized, turning to surgical intervention only when they have failed. However, these traditional modalities have shortcomings, only aiming to reduce pain rather than targeting the underlying pathophysiology.

Research into the disequilibrium of microglial phenotypes has become an area of intense focus in neurodegenerative disease as a potential mechanism that contributes to chronic neuroinflammation and neuronal loss in Parkinson's disease (PD). There is growing evidence that neuroinflammation accompanies and may promote progression of alpha-synuclein (Asyn)-induced nigral dopaminergic (DA) degeneration. From a therapeutic perspective, development of immunomodulatory strategies that dampen overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines from chronically activated immune cells and induce a pro-phagocytic phenotype is expected to promote Asyn removal and protect vulnerable neurons.

This editorial critically explores the use of ankle thigh tourniquets in foot and ankle surgery based on a recent study that found no significant difference in postoperative pain between the two placement techniques. Despite these findings, we argue for the preferential use of ankle tourniquets, highlighting their potential benefits in reducing venous blood stasis and minimizing soft tissue injury. This approach underscores the importance of considering long-term patient outcomes and vascular health beyond immediate postoperative pain.

Background: The minimal important difference (MID) is a useful tool to interpret changes in patients' health-related quality of life. This study aims to estimate MIDs for interpreting within-patient change for both components of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire [EQ-Visual Analogue Scale (EQ-VAS) and utility index] and domains of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) for cancer patients.
Methods: Data were obtained from the Cancer 2015 dataset, a longitudinal cohort of Australian cancer patients.

I use a path/confirmatory factor analytic framework to present an under-the-hood introduction to (a) the effects of measurement error and method variance on observed measures, (b) the effects of common latent Trait and Method factors on relationships between observed measures in the presence of measurement error and (c) examine implications of developments presented here for the possible reinterpretation of Campbell and Fiske's original criteria for convergent and discrimainat validity and presence of common method bias. I use results from one previously published and often-cited primary study and four meta-analyses of multitrait-multimethod studies to provide empirical examples to illustrate points made here. I show analytically that (a) some common interpretations of method effects are correct, (b) others are incorrect and (c) still others are more nuanced than is usually recognised.

Background: Psoriasis, a chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory disease, affects 2‒3% of the population. Tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2) mediates cytokine signaling involved in adaptive [interleukin (IL)-12, IL-23] and innate (type-I interferons) immune responses; IL-23-driven T-helper (Th)17 pathways play a key role in chronic inflammation in psoriasis. In a phase 2 trial, deucravacitinib, an oral, selective, allosteric TYK2 inhibitor, reduced IL-23/Th17 and type-I interferon pathway expression in the skin of patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, reductions that were accompanied by clinical improvement of psoriatic lesions.

Objective: The All of Us Evenings with Genetics (EwG) Research Program at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), funded to engage research scholars to work with the All of Us data, developed a training curriculum for the Researcher Workbench, the platform to access and analyze All of Us data. All of Us EwG developed the curriculum so that it could teach scholars regardless of their skills and background in programming languages and cloud computing. All of Us EwG delivered this curriculum at the first annual All of Us EwG Faculty Summit in May 2022.

Objective: Educational offerings to fill the bioinformatics knowledge gap are a key component to enhancing access and use of health data from the All of Us Research Program. We developed a Train the Trainer-based, innovative training series including project-based learning, modular on-demand demonstrations, and unstructured tutorial time as a model for educational engagement in the All of Us community.
Materials And Methods: We highlight our training modules and content, with training survey data informing cycles of development in the creation of a 6-module training series with modular demonstrations.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent chemicals of increasing concern to human health. PFAS contamination in water systems has been linked to a variety of sources including hydrocarbon fire suppression activities, industrial and military land uses, agricultural applications of biosolids, and consumer products. To assess PFAS in California tap water, we collected 60 water samples from inside homes in four different geographic regions, both urban and rural.

Formaldehyde has been found to decrease virus concentrations in feed and ingredient matrices. Continued research is needed to identify the appropriate inclusion levels and application time for different viruses in these matrices. The objective was to evaluate different inclusion levels of formaldehyde when applied either pre- or postinoculation of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (), type 2 porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (), and Seneca Valley virus 1 () to complete feed or soybean meal.

Background: Bone defects, especially critical-size bone defects, and their repair pose a treatment challenge. Osteoinductive scaffolds have gained importance given their potential in bone tissue engineering applications.
Methods: Polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds are used for their morphological, physical, cell-compatible and osteoinductive properties.

Treatment effect waning (TEW) refers to the attenuation of treatment effects over time. Assumptions of a sustained immuno-oncologic treatment effect have been a source of contention in health technology assessment (HTA). We review how TEW has been addressed in HTA and in the wider scientific literature.
