To evaluate the clinical utility of the Baveno classification in predicting incident cardiovascular mortality after five years of follow-up in a clinic-based cohort of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). We evaluated the reproducibility of the Baveno classification using data from the Santiago Obstructive Sleep Apnea (SantOSA) study. The groups were labeled Baveno A (minor symptoms and comorbidities), B (severe symptoms and minor comorbidities), C (minor symptoms and severe comorbidities), and D (severe symptoms and comorbidities).

Background: Noncontrast CT (NCCT) is used to evaluate for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and ischemia in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Large vessel occlusions (LVOs) are a major cause of AIS, but challenging to detect on NCCT.
Aims: The purpose of this study is to evaluate an AI software called RAPID NCCT Stroke (RAPID, iSchemaView, Menlo Park, CA) for ICH and LVO detection compared to expert readers.

In this study, we aimed to appraise the quality and psychometric properties of quality of life (QOL) assessment tools used after microsurgical reconstruction for head and neck cancers. A systematic review of QOL assessment tools used in head and neck cancer patients after microsurgical reconstruction was performed; emphasis was placed on psychometric properties and validity. Fifty-four studies published between January 2010 and February 2023 fulfilled the criteria; in these, twenty-three different QOL assessment tools were identified.

Objectives: Patients with urolithiasis receive a significant amount of radiation during diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of their pathology, with nearly 20% receiving more than the annual recommended, creating a growing concern regarding radiation exposure faced by patients and health personnel. The objectives of the study were to describe a standardized fluoroscopy-free (FF) semirigid (SR) ureteroscopy (URS) technique for ureteral stone treatment and to determine the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of this technique for the treatment of ureteral stones comparing it to a historical cohort of fluoroscopy-guided (FG) SR-URS.
Materials And Methods: A prospective single-arm study of patients submitted to FF SR-URS was conducted.

Purpose: Extracellular vesicles (EV) secreted from cancer cells are present in various biological fluids, carrying distinctly different cellular components compared to normal cells, and have great potential to be used as markers for disease initiation, progression, and response to treatment. This under-utilised tool provides insights into a better understanding of prostate cancer.
Methods: EV from serum and urine of healthy men and castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) patients were isolated and characterised by transmission electron microscopy, particle size analysis, and western blot.

Autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia type 1 (ARCA-1) or spinocerebellar ataxia autosomal recessive type 8 (SCAR8) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disorder that occurs due to mutations in the spectrin repeat containing nuclear envelope protein 1 (SYNE1) gene. Previously considered a rare cause of ARCA, related to French-Canadian patients from Beauce, Quebec, Canada, SYNE1 ataxia is now known to be of worldwide distribution. We present the case report of a 54-year-old male patient with the genetic diagnosis of SYNE1 ataxia, presenting with a SYNE1 gene mutation never described in Chilean population before.

Introduction: It has been estimated that between 15% and 18% of patients who start antiretroviral therapy (ART) do not achieve a successful immune recovery despite complete virological suppression. In the literature this phenomenom is known as poor immune recovery or immunovirological discordance (IVD). Zinc has an immunomodulatory role associated with T lymphocytes and its supplementation could enhance immune recovery.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed health systems across the world, both in general hospitals and in oncology institutes or centres. For cancer specialists, particularly breast cancer (BC), the COVID-19 pandemic represents a combination of challenges since the hospital resources and staff have become more limited; this has obliged oncology specialists to seek a consensus and establish which patients with BC require more urgent attention and which patients can wait until there is a better control of this pandemic. The health system in Latin America has some special characteristics; in some of the countries, there are shortages which limit access to several specialities (surgery, clinical oncology and radiotherapy) in some regions.

Objective: Thymidine kinase 2, encoded by the nuclear gene TK2, is required for mitochondrial DNA maintenance. Autosomal recessive TK2 mutations cause depletion and multiple deletions of mtDNA that manifest predominantly as a myopathy usually beginning in childhood and progressing relentlessly. We investigated the safety and efficacy of deoxynucleoside monophosphate and deoxynucleoside therapies.

Intraoperative somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) provide dorsal somatosensory system functional and localizing information, and complement motor evoked potentials. Correct application and interpretation require in-depth knowledge of relevant anatomy, electrophysiology, and techniques. It is advisable to facilitate cortical SEPs with total intravenous propofol-opioid or similarly favorable anesthesia.
