Introduction/aims: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy affects small nerve fibers early, but adequate evaluation has proven difficult. One method for functional assessment of small nerve fiber function is the axon-reflex flare (ARF) response. This study aimed to 1) validate the histamine-induced ARF response in a nonselected population with diabetes, 2) compare the response to that induced by local heating, and 3) compare both methods to an established method (quantitative sensory testing) in a nonselected population with diabetes.

Promega Corporation, 2800 Woods Hollow Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53711, United States.

The regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide (SO) and nitric oxide (NO) is crucial in biology, influencing metabolism and signaling pathways. Imbalances in these species lead to oxidative stress and various diseases. Traditional methods for measuring SO and NO face challenges in terms of sensitivity and specificity, particularly in complex biological matrices.

Rationale: Older adults make up the majority of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and often carry multiple other comorbidities (multimorbidity) when initiating treatment. The nature and impact of multimorbidity remain largely unknown, given the limitations of standard count-based comorbidity indices in aging patients and their exclusion from clinical trials.

Objective: Our objective is to identify and define multimorbidity patterns in older U.

Although previous studies have established links between anxiety disorders, sexual dysfunctions, and sexual satisfaction, there is relatively little research on the specific factors associated with living with an anxiety disorder that might contribute to these sexual health disparities. This study assessed the associations between anxiety, cognitive distractions, biased expectancies, and 1) sexual dysfunction (DSM-5 diagnostic criteria) 2) associated distress, and 3) sexual satisfaction while considering the role of pharmacological treatment-related sexual side effects and comorbid depressive symptoms. A large clinical population ( = 207) of people with anxiety diagnoses seeking treatment at 11 outpatient anxiety clinics in Denmark participated.

Many European countries have increased retirement ages to address the challenge of population ageing. However, job strain which is the combination of high job demands and low job control may be an obstacle to extending the working lives of older workers. Job strain is associated with poor health and early work exit among older workers, but less is known about whether job strain impacts working life expectancy (WLE)-an increasingly employed summary measure capturing the length of working lives.

Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Departamento de Geologia e Paleontologia, Laboratório de Sistemática e Tafonomia de Vertebrados Fósseis (LAPUG), Museu Nacional, Campus de Pesquisa e Ensino, Avenida Bartolomeu de Gusmão, 875, São Cristóvão, 20941-160 Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil.

Shell beds, or coquinas, have a complex origin, limiting their utility in paleoecology. However, such accumulations can serve as crucial paleoenvironmental indicators, since their bioestratinomic and diagenetic properties explain the physical-chemical and biological processes of their formation, as well as the ancient environments linked to their development. In 2016, the PALEOANTAR Project sampled coquinas from the James Ross Island (Antarctic Peninsula) in Passo São José (PSJ - San José Way) and Muro do Castelo (MDC - Castle Wall), two new localities with outcrops of the lower Lachman Crags Member, Santa Marta Formation, Marambio Group, Cretaceous of Larsen Basin.

Objectives: To identify clinical presentations that acted as harbingers for future sepsis hospitalizations in pediatric patients evaluated in the emergency department (ED) using the Symptom Disease Pair Analysis of Diagnostic Error (SPADE) methodology.

Methods: We identified patients in the Pediatric Health Information Systems (PHIS) database admitted for sepsis between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2023 and limited the study cohort to those patients who had an ED treat-and-release visit in the 30 days prior to admission. Using the look-back approach of the SPADE methodology, we identified the most common clinical presentations at the initial ED visit and used an observed to expected (O:E) analysis to determine which presentations were overrepresented.

Specialized or secondary metabolites are small molecules of biological origin, often showing potent biological activities with applications in agriculture, engineering and medicine. Usually, the biosynthesis of these natural products is governed by sets of co-regulated and physically clustered genes known as biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). To share information about BGCs in a standardized and machine-readable way, the Minimum Information about a Biosynthetic Gene cluster (MIBiG) data standard and repository was initiated in 2015.
