Article Synopsis
  • The Malayan banded wolf snake (Lycodon subcinctus) has an intricate taxonomic history, with confusion surrounding its classification, particularly regarding the name Anoplophallus maculatus.
  • Recent studies proposed raising a Chinese population of L. subcinctus to a species level, leading researchers to clarify that Anoplophallus maculatus actually refers to a different Neotropical snake.
  • As a resolution, a new species name, Lycodon neomaculatus sp. nov., has been proposed for Chinese populations and is characterized by distinct color patterns and scalation, with its distribution being separate from L. subcinctus.

The gekkonid lizard genus Hemiphyllodactylus contains small, secretive species that are often overlooked in their habitats. Recent molecular and morphological analyses have resulted in the descriptions of numerous new species of Hemiphyllodactylus in mainland Southeast Asia and southern China, many of which were historically hidden within the geographically widespread taxon H. yunnanensis (Boulenger, 1903).

The taxonomy and distribution of seven species of Sinodrepanus Simonis, 1985 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Oniticellini) is studied. Sinodrepanus schoenfeldi Montanaro, new species from India and Laos is described and illustrated. The morphologically similar and poorly known Sinodrepanus exsul (Sharp, 1875) is redescribed and illustrated, including the previously unknown female.

UNICEF East Asia Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok, Thailand.

Adolescence is a period of tremendous physical and neurophysiological change, and today's rapidly changing food system has implications for adolescent nutritional and health outcomes. Ensuring nutritious diets during adolescence requires evidence on what is being consumed by adolescent boys and girls, however, little is known about the dietary patterns among this age group. This study assessed the prevalence of food group consumption and indicators of diet quality among adolescents in the Southeast Asia region and compared these results to the adult population.

Article Synopsis
  • Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) is a popular material in organic electronics due to its easy synthesis and low cost, but achieving well-defined chain arrangements depends on the solvent polarity used.
  • Research shows that different organic solvents can lead to distinct aggregation types in P3HT: H-type aggregates in solvents like anisole and phenetole, and J-type aggregates in toluene.
  • P3HT’s behavior at low concentrations results in unique properties, such as H-type aggregates forming a gel network that halts solvent flow, while J-type aggregates do not, and further testing reveals detailed viscoelastic and structural properties of these P3HT networks.
