Spontaneous adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reporting by health care professionals (HCPs) plays a vital role in pharmacovigilance (PV). However, under-reporting remain a major challenge worldwide, especially in low and middle-income countries, including Lao PDR. This cluster-randomized controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of the modified TaWai mobile app for ADR reporting compared with the usual practice in hospitals.

In recent decades, technological advancements and scientific progress have significantly improved disease control strategies. However, the exclusive focus on these aspects often overlooks the crucial role of social and cultural factors. Local narratives, reflecting community traditions and beliefs, offer valuable insights that can influence the success of public health interventions.

The Annamite striped rabbit () is an Endangered lagomorph endemic to the Annamite Mountain Range in Vietnam and Laos, with much unknown about its distribution range. In this study, we used previously known records of the Annamite striped rabbit to construct distribution models using Maxent, a modeling approach that has been proven to be robust in identifying potential areas of undiscovered populations of targeted species. Using the optimal model results as a guideline to select the field site, we conducted a systematic camera trap survey in Dak Long Protection Forest, Kon Tum Province, Vietnam.

Black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) are significant pests and vectors transmitting pathogens to humans and other animals. However, knowledge of species diversity as well as their role as pests and vectors in Laos is limited, despite the country having abundant suitable lotic habitats, that is, running water. In this study, we collected wild adult black fly specimens from Laos.

We used fecal DNA metabarcoding to genetically characterize Trichuris spp. populations in patient samples from Côte d'Ivoire showing lower (egg reduction rate <70%) albendazole/ivermectin sensitivity than those from Laos and Tanzania (egg reduction rates >98%).

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is predicted to outstrip malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis combined as the leading infectious cause of death by 2050. Strengthening the knowledge and evidence base for AMR with surveillance and research is one of the five main objectives of the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR. While recent efforts to strengthen diagnosis and surveillance have been encouraging, these are unlikely to be sustainable without continued funding support in most low-resource settings.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of ultrasound-assisted cross-linking of myofibrillar protein (MP) emulsions on the enhancement of rheological and tribological properties of emulsion-filled gel. The micro-morphology, texture, water hold capacity (WHC), chemical forces, linear shear rheological behavior, large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS), oil-released content, and simulated oral friction of the water-filled gel (WP-G), the original MP fabricated emulsion-filled gel (NP-G), the crosslinked MP fabricated emulsion-filled gel (NPG-G), and the ultrasound treated crosslinked MP fabricated emulsion-filled gel (NPGU-G) were determined. Results indicated that emulsion as filler phase significantly improved the rheological and tribological properties of the gel, especially for the ultrasound-assisted MP emulsion-filled gel (NPGU-G) group, the smaller droplet size of emulsion contributed to the density and structural uniformity of the gel.

Background: Despite the high prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults in Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Lao health care workers (HCWs) have previously been shown to have low levels of protection against infection. Furthermore, the prevalence of hepatitis D virus (HDV), which increases disease severity in individuals infected with HBV, is not known in Lao PDR.
Objective: This study aimed to estimate the exposure and seroprotection against HBV, as well as exposure to HDV, in Lao HCWs from 5 provinces.

Background: Understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic evolved under control measures is crucial to tackle the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread. Laos, a country bordering China but with late occurrence and low burden of COVID-19 compared to its neighbouring countries, was used for a case study.
Methods: A transmission model with disease reporting was proposed to investigate the impact of control measures on the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread in Laos from April 2021 to May 2022.

Aim: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a minimally invasive treatment with proven efficacy for managing early childhood caries. However, the dark staining associated with SDF treatment remains a major concern that affects parental acceptance. This study examines the level of parental acceptance of SDF treatment for preschool children in Laos and explores associated factors such as parental anxiety, previous dental experience, and demographic data.
