Background: The outcome of deploying balloon-mounted stents for symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) has not been fully investigated. In this study we evaluate the safety and long-term outcome of using balloon-mounted stents to treat symptomatic ICAS in comparison with the WEAVE/WOVEN study.

Methods: In a multicenter registry study of stenting for symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis in China, 159 patients treated with an intracranial balloon-mounted stent approved by the China Food and Drug Administration were evaluated.

The Indian hedgehog (IHH) signaling pathway is an important pathway for bone growth and development. The aim of the present study was to examine the role of the IHH signaling pathway in the development of the ossification of ligamentum flavum (OLF) at the cellular and tissue levels. The expression levels and localization of the osteogenic genes Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), Osterix, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OCN) and IHH were evaluated in OLF tissues by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and immunohistochemistry.

Stenting for symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis in China: 1-year outcome of a multicentre registry study.

Stroke Vasc Neurol

September 2018

Department of Interventional Neurology, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, Center of Stroke, Beijing Institute for Brain Disorders, Beijing, China.

Background And Purpose: A multicentre prospective registry study of individually tailored stenting for a patient with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) combined with poor collaterals in China showed that the short-term safety and efficacy of stenting was acceptable. However, it remained uncertain whether the low event rate could be of a long term. We reported the 1-year outcome of this registry study to evaluate the long-term efficacy of individually tailored stenting for patients with severe symptomatic ICAS combined with poor collaterals.

Institute of Orthopedic Research, Lanzhou General Hospital of PLA, Lanzhou 730050, China.

Total knee arthroplasty is an effective method for the treatment of end-stage knee osteoarthrosis, which can effectively relieve joint pain and reconstruct the integrity of the joint. Whether the posterior cruciate ligament should be preserved during surgery or not, which is still in dispute. In recent years, posterior cruciate-retaining and substituting total knee prostheses are both applied in clinical practice.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a serious adverse effect of radiotherapy for thoracic tumor, which is believed to be a process that is tightly regulated by the phenotype of the developing Th response after radiation. Here, we will investigate whether CpG-oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) prevent radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis by shifting the imbalance of Th1 and Th2 response and summarizes the possible mechanism. In this study, female C57BL/6 mice were chosen to preform pulmonary fibrosis model, the whole-thorax of mice was exposed to a single radiation dose of 15 Gy.

Department of Orthopaedics, Lanzhou General Hospital of PLA, No. 333 South Binhe Road, Lanzhou, 730050, Gansu, People's Republic of China.

Background: The treatment of acetabular protrusions during total hip arthroplasty of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is difficult. A lack of bone stock, deficient medial cup support, and medialization of the joint center in those with protrusio acetabuli must be addressed during acetabular reconstruction. The purpose of this study was to assess the short-term clinical results of total hip arthroplasty in patients with severe acetabular protrusions secondary to rheumatoid arthritis.

Standard CD44 modulates YAP1 through a positive feedback loop in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Biomed Pharmacother

July 2018

Department of Medical Oncology and Laboratory of Molecular Targeted Therapy in Oncology, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, 610041, PR China. Electronic address:

High expression levels of CD44 and YAP have been identified as poor prognostic factors in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the mechanistic relationship between CD44 and YAP during HCC tumorigenesis remains largely unknown. To investigate the mutual regulation between standard CD44 (CD44S) and YAP1 in HCC cell lines and tissue samples, CD44S and YAP1 expression in 40 pairs of tumor samples and matched distal normal tissues from HCC patients was examined by immunohistochemical staining.

Melatonin Receptor Agonist Piromelatine Ameliorates Impaired Glucose Metabolism in Chronically Stressed Rats Fed a High-Fat Diet.

J Pharmacol Exp Ther

January 2018

College of Pharmacy, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, PR China (J.Z., M.X.L, R.X.Z, Z.P.J.); Xi'an Daxing Hospital, Shaanxi, PR China (D.W.); Lanzhou General Hospital of PLA, Lanzhou, PR China (J.Z., X.L., M.X.L, R.X.Z, Z.P.J.); Shanghai Institute of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China (X.J.); and Drug Discovery, Neurim Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Tel-Aviv, Israel (M.L.).

Modern lifestyle factors (high-caloric food rich in fat) and daily chronic stress are important risk factors for metabolic disturbances. Increased hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity and the subsequent excess production of glucocorticoids (GCs) in response to chronic stress (CS) leads to increases in metabolic complications, such as type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance (IR). Melatonin (MLT), which protects several regulatory components of the HPA axis from GC-induced deterioration, might improve glucose homeostasis.

Neu-P11, a novel MT1/MT2 agonist, reverses diabetes by suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in rats.

Eur J Pharmacol

October 2017

College of Pharmacy, LanZhou university, Lanzhou 730000, PR China; Department of Pharmacy, Lanzhou General Hospital of PLA, Lanzhou 730050, PR China. Electronic address:

Excessive glucocorticoid (GC) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) reduces insulin sensitivity, impairs β-cell function, increases gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, impairs glucose uptake and metabolism, and reduces the insulinotropic effects of glucagon-like peptide 1. Melatonin, which serves as a physiological regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, has been suggested to have anti-diabetic effects. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of the MT1/MT2 melatonin agonist Neu-P11 on glucose and lipid metabolism in T2DM rats induced by a high fat diet combined with low doses of streptozotocin.
