A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method with column-switching was developed and validated for rapid determination of two propranolol enantiomers in rat plasma. The column of restricted-access media was used as a pre-treatment column and a Chiralcel OD-RH was used as analytical column. The plasma samples were injected directly into the pretreatment column to remove plasma protein and endogenous constituents as well as to retent the propranolol enantiomers in the column using the mobile phase of borate buffer (pH 8.

Background And Aim: In order to explore a new therapeutic method, we investigated the effects of exogenously expressed hepatocyte growth factor mediated by attenuated salmonella (TPH) on rats with ulcerative colitis (UC) induced by 2-, 4-, 6-trinitro-benzene-sulfonic acid.
Methods: The UC rats were treated with TPH, attenuated salmonella with a eukaryotic expression vector (TP) or sodium bicarbonate (model control [MC]) every other day. Cluster of differentiation (CD)4(+) and CD8(+) T cells and immunoglobulins in the blood were analyzed by flow cytometry.

A rapid and sensitive method was developed and validated using a normal phase liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for determination of propranolol enantiomers in pharmaceuticals. Sample preparation involved a single extraction step by the addition of methanol. Separation of propranolol enantiomers was achieved on a Chiralcel OD-H chiral column using a mobile phase consisting of n-hexane-ethanol-ammonia (70:30:0.

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of pentosan polysulfide sodium (PPS) on chronic non-bacterial prostatitis (CNP) in rats.
Methods: Based on Robinette's method, we established a CNP model in 80 male SD rats, aged 6 months and weighing 315 - 450 g, by castration followed by subcutaneous injection of estradiol at 0.25 mg / (kg x d) for 30 consecutive days.

We report 1 case of successful treatment of radius and ulna nonunion by a folded vascularized fibular graft, in which 2 parallel fibular struts remained connected by the periosteum and peroneal vessels, and another case of infected nonunion of the ulna and radius with osseous and soft tissue defects treated by a free fibular osteoseptocutaneous flap with folded fibular graft in a 1-stage procedure.

Objective: To explore the influence of hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha) expression on the apoptosis and proliferation of T lymphocyte after severe burn with delayed fluid resuscitation at different altitude in rats.
Methods: One hundred and thirty-two Wistar rats were subjected to burn injury [30% total body surface area (TBSA), III degree], at 1,517 metres and 3,848 metres above sea level, and they were randomly divided into three groups: delayed fluid resuscitation group (DFR, n=30 at each altitude), immediate fluid resuscitation group (IFR, n=30 at each altitude), and sham group (SG, n=6). The Peyer's patches were harvested from the ileum of rats at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after burn respectively.

Objective: To investigate the inhibiting effect of telomerase with hTERT antisense on TNF-alpha-induced apoptosis in prostate cancer cells PC3.
Methods: Antisense phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotide (AS PS-ODN) was synthesized and purified. Telomerase activity was measured by telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) and telomerase PCR-ELISA Kit, cell viability was determined by MTT assay, and cell apoptosis was observed by morphological method and determined by flow cytometry.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy combined with suture and ligation surgery for patients with giant hepatic cavernous hemangioma (HCH).
Methods: Between June 2004 and June 2005, a total of 30 patients were treated by RFA therapy after suture and ligation surgery (SL group, n = 15, with 18 liver lesions) or RFA therapy without suture and ligation surgery (non-SL group, n = 15, with 17 liver lesions) under general anesthesia. All patients had obvious symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, pain and swelling.

Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), currently used extensively for liver tumors, also has been applied successfully to hepatic cavernous hemangioma (HCH) percutaneously. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of laparoscopic RFA for patients with HCHs.
Methods: Between March 2001 and March 2004, 27 patients with symptomatic and rapid-growth lesions were treated by laparoscopic RFA using the RF-2000 generator system.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility, safety and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy in patients with hepatic cavernous hemangioma (HCH) and investigate its optimal operative approach.
Methods: Between March 2001 and June 2004, a total of 68 patients, 18 males and 50 females, age 43.1 (30-64), with 104 HCHs 2.
