Summary: Elemental imaging provides detailed profiling of metal bioaccumulation, offering more precision than bulk analysis by targeting specific tissue areas. However, accurately identifying comparable tissue regions from elemental maps is challenging, requiring the integration of hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) slides for effective comparison. Facilitating the streamlined co-registration of whole slide images (WSI) and elemental maps, TRACE enhances the analysis of tissue regions and elemental abundance in various pathological conditions.

Alterations in gut microbiota might contribute to uremic toxicity and immune dysregulation in patients with end-stage renal disease. Hemodialysis patients are prone to infection and higher mortality following sepsis. The virulence factors in the gut metagenome have not been well studied in hemodialysis patients, which could be employed by microorganisms to successfully thrive and flourish in their hosts.

Matriptase is ectopically expressed in neoplastic B-cells, in which matriptase activity is enhanced by negligible expression of its endogenous inhibitor, hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor (HAI)-1. HAI-1, however, is also involved in matriptase synthesis and intracellular trafficking. The lack of HAI-1 indicates that other related inhibitor, such as HAI-2, might be expressed.

We used as an example chemical KBrO3 which is activated by glutathione and forms reactive intermediates that directly interact with DNA to form 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine DNA adducts (8-OH-dG). The single strand breaks (SSB) that can result from failed base excision repair of these adducts were considered as an effect downstream from 8-OH-dG.

Using the role of p-iodophenol in enzyme assay, enhanced 1,1'-oxalyldiimidazole chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassays (ODI-CLEIAs) were developed to consecutively quantify trace levels of triple tumor markers, such as alpha fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and prostate specific antigen (PSA) in a sample. Due to the high sensitivity of enhanced ODI-CLEIAs, it was possible to fix the incubation times (1) to capture a tumor marker with two antibodies, which are primary antibody immobilized on the surface of polystyrene strip-well and detection antibody-conjugated horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and (2) to form resorufin with the addition of substrates (e.g.

The roles of CdS nanocrystals (quantum dots) stabilized by oleic acid ligands in toluene were investigated in the 1,1'-oxalyldiimidazole chemiluminescence (ODI-CL) reaction generated under various environmental conditions. CdS excited by high-energy intermediates formed in ODI-CL reaction emitted dim CL. Also, CdS acted as a catalyst to enhance the yield of high-energy intermediates, capable of transferring energy to fluorescent molecules, in aqueous ODI-CL reactions, whereas it acted as a strong quencher, capable of inhibiting the CL emission of excited fluorescent molecules, in non-aqueous ODI-CL reactions.

A novel competitive 1,1'-oxalyldiimidazole (ODI) chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay (CLEIA) was developed as a method for rapid and simple screening of melamine in milk. Fat existing in milk acts as an inhibitor in the competitive binding interaction of melamine and anti-melamine in the presence of melamine-conjugated horseradish peroxidase. Thus, the calibration curve and sensitivity of competitive ODI CLEIA for the quantification of melamine in fat free milk were wider and better than those in milk containing fat.
