Omega-3 fatty acids prevent gestational diabetes mellitus via modulation of lipid metabolism.

Open Life Sci

August 2024

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Langfang Health Vocational College, South of Siguang Road, Dongfang University Town, Langfang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Langfang, Hebei Province, 065001, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3 FAs) on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) by examining how they influence inflammation and liver function in both cell cultures and animal models.
  • ω-3 FAs help convert inflammatory M0 macrophages into anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages, which promotes better liver function and reduces fat buildup, leading to improved blood glucose and insulin levels in pregnant mice with GDM.
  • Additionally, the positive impact of ω-3 FAs extends to the offspring of GDM mice, showing decreased birth mortality and improved glycemic control, suggesting a potential treatment strategy for GDM.

Effectiveness of CT radiomic features combined with clinical factors in predicting prognosis in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

BMC Cancer

February 2024

Department of Radiation Oncology, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin, 300060, China.

Background: The prognosis of SCLC is poor and difficult to predict. The aim of this study was to explore whether a model based on radiomics and clinical features could predict the prognosis of patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC).

Methods: Simulated positioning CT images and clinical features were retrospectively collected from 200 patients with histological diagnosis of LS-SCLC admitted between 2013 and 2021, which were randomly divided into the training (n = 140) and testing (n = 60) groups.

Chinese formulation-based medicinal food has been widely used in clinical trials, but its safety is not well studied. In this research, the edible safety assessment of Balanced Health Care Dan-a formulation containing traditional edible ingredients that were initially formulated to reduce side effects for lung cancer patients-was studied in mice based on biochemical and gut microbial analyses. The experimental mice were subcutaneously loaded with lung tumor A549 cells and then administrated with Balanced Health Care Dan (200 mg/kg or 400 mg/kg b.

Background: Comfort is a primary patient objective and central to patient experience, and thus, maximising comfort is a universal goal for healthcare. However, comfort is a complex concept that is difficult to operationalise and evaluate, resulting in a lack of scientific and standardised comfort care practices. The Comfort Theory developed by Kolcaba has been the most widely known for its systematisation and projection and most of the global publications regarding comfort care were based on this theory.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

December 2022

Department of Joint Surgery, Ningbo No.6 Hospital, No. 1059 East Zhongshan Road, Ningbo, 315040, Zhejiang Province, China.

Objective: The aims of this work are to present a classification of "complex fracture" and "simple fracture", to compare their features, treatments and prognosis in patients with giant cell tumour with pathologic fractures around the knee, and to determine the best surgical method for patients who have giant cell tumour around the knee with different degrees of fracture.

Methods: Data from 130 patients with pathologic fractures from giant cell tumour around the knee who underwent surgical treatment from March 2000 to November 2015 at 6 institutes around China were collected and analysed. A multicentric study design was used to explore the epidemiological features and to compare differences in the surgical procedures and prognosis of the two fracture groups.

Objective: To evaluate diagnostic accuracy of dynamic susceptibility contrast- perfusion weighted imaging (DSC-PWI) combined with serum MMP-2 and -9 levels in differentiating recurrent glioblastoma (GBM).

Methods: We enrolled a total of 220 GBM patients, including recurrent cases (n = 150) and non-recurrent cases (n = 70) after postoperative concomitant chemoradiotherapy. All patients performed preoperative and follow-up DSC-PWI, and two parameters [normalized cerebral blood volume (nCBV) and cerebral blood flow (nCBF)] were obtained.

Article Synopsis
  • The proposed method improves the classification of English grammar vocabulary by using a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm, focusing specifically on news English texts to classify their attributes and features.
  • It employs a combination of k-means clustering and multiple SVM classifiers to handle challenging texts, ensuring better sample balance and reducing the area where classifications overlap, known as the inseparable area.
  • Results show that this method outperforms the existing FDAGSVM algorithm, achieving macro average accuracy rates of 77.94%, 73.94%, and 72.36%, while enhancing both classification speed and accuracy in multiclass scenarios.
