Background: This study aims to screen inflammation-related genes closely associated with the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to accurately forecast the prognosis of HCC patients.

Methods: Gene expression matrices and clinical information for liver cancer samples were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC). An intersection of differentially expressed genes of HCC and normal and GeneCards yielded inflammation-related genes associated with HCC.

The clinical significance of the combination of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is unclear. This study investigated the predictive value of pretreatment NLR (pre-NLR) combined with pretreatment PLR (pre-PLR) for the survival and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A total of 765 patients with non-metastatic NPC from two hospitals were retrospectively analyzed.

Electronic address:

Osteoporosis is an osteolytic disease with a disrupted balance between the resorption and formation of bone as well as bone microstructure degeneration, leading to bone loss and increased fracture risk, which greatly affects patients' quality of life. Currently, inhibition of osteoclast bone resorption remains the mainstream treatment for osteoporosis. Onc201, a new compound, induces the gene expression of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and has an efficient anticancer effect in clinical trials.

This study aimed to observe whether calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystals can induce the activation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in human renal cortex proximal tubule epithelial (HK-2) cells and to explore the regulatory of ER stress on the damage and apoptosis of HK-2 cells induced by CaOx crystals. We detected the optimal CaOx crystal concentration and intervention time by Western blot. ER stress modifiers tunicamycin (TM) and 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) were used to regulate the ER stress of HK-2 cells.

Apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells has an important role in the process of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), and the search for novel compounds to prevent apoptosis from occurring is urgently required. In the present study, syringic acid (SyrA) was found to exhibit no cytotoxicity on NP cells, and was able to reverse the cytotoxicity, as well as the abnormal expression of Bcl‑2 and caspase‑3, that were induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The transcriptomes of each group were then analyzed using RNA‑Seq.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a life-threatening disorder with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Up to now, there are still no effective drugs for its therapies due to the complexity of its etiology and pathogenesis. In this present study, we investigated the protective effect of Nervilifordin F (NF) on ALI induced by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (II/R) and its related mechanism.

Drug therapy of osteoarthritis (OA) is limited by the short retention and lacking of stimulus-responsiveness after intra-articular (IA) injection. The weak acid microenvironment in joint provides a potential trigger for controlled drug release systems in the treatment of OA. Herein, we developed an pH-responsive metal - organic frameworks (MOFs) system modified by hyaluronic acid (HA) and loaded with an anti-inflammatory protocatechuic acid (PCA), designated as MOF@HA@PCA, for the therapy of OA.

The aim of the present study was to identify key genes involved in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). According to the theory of the multistep process of hepatocarcinogenesis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis, hub genes associated with the progression of HCC were identified using the gene expression profiles of patients with normal to chronic hepatitis/cirrhosis and dysplastic nodules to HCC. An independent dataset was used to verify the association between hub gene and clinical phenotype.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how atorvastatin (ATV) protects the kidneys from inflammation caused by calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystals using cell and rat models for testing.
  • - Key molecular markers and levels of oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines were measured, revealing that the CaOx model had signs of significant kidney damage compared to the control group.
  • - Treatment with ATV showed promising protective effects, including increased antioxidant levels, decreased inflammation markers, and reduced crystal deposition in the kidneys, suggesting its potential role in mitigating kidney damage caused by CaOx.

Main Methods: Ethylene glycol (EG) was used to establish a rat model of CaOx kidney stones, and 100 mg/kg of ERS inhibitor 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) or 60 mg/kg of autophagy inhibitor chloroquine (CQ) was administered daily to the rats. Four weeks after administration, we collected blood and kidney tissues to analyze the occurrence of ERS and autophagy, apoptosis, renal function, renal tubular crystal deposition, and kidney damage, respectively.

Background: Nephrolithiasis is a common disease in urology, and its pathogenesis is associated with various factors. Recent studies have shown that reactive oxygen species (ROS) can promote autophagy in the formation of kidney stones and exacerbate kidney injury. Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), a key factor in regulating intracellular environmental homeostasis, is also directly related to ROS production.

: Tumor mutational burden (TMB) has emerged as an independent biomarker to predict patient responses to treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have a crucial role in the regulation of anticancer immune responses, but the association of miRNA expression patterns and TMB is not clear in LUAD. : Differentially expressed miRNAs in samples with high TMB and low TMB samples were screened in the LUAD dataset in The Cancer Genome Atlas.

The present study aimed to establish a microRNA (miRNA/miR) signature to predict the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer (PC) at the early stage and to investigate the involvement of competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) in PC. Using mature miRNA expression profiles from The Cancer Genome Atlas, differentially expressed miRNAs in tissues derived from patients exhibiting early PC and tissues from healthy individuals were compared. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression method was used to construct a miRNA-based signature for predicting prognosis.
