Cutaneous Coccidiomycosis Masquerading as an Epidermoid Cyst: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Objectives: To present a challenging case of inoculatory fungal mycosis mimicking an epidermoid cyst, which may have been easily overlooked by the pathologist.

Methods: We present a case report of a 29-year-old male with a nodule on the right lower back, which was surgically excised and submitted to pathology as a ruptured epidermoid cyst.

Results: Histopathologic sections revealed detached soft tissue fragments containing polymorphic granulomas with abscess and suspicious-appearing spherical structures ranging in size from 50 to 200 μm.

Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is a revolutionary surgical technique that, together with advances in upper extremity prostheses and advanced neuromuscular pattern recognition, allows intuitive and coordinated control in multiple planes of motion for shoulder disarticulation and transhumeral amputees. TMR also may provide improvement in neuroma-related pain and may represent an opportunity for sensory reinnervation as advances in prostheses and haptic feedback progress. Although most commonly utilized following shoulder disarticulation and transhumeral amputations, TMR techniques also represent an exciting opportunity for improvement in integrated prosthesis control and neuroma-related pain improvement in patients with transradial amputations.

Background: There is limited information on compliance rates with anti-vectorial protective measures (AVPMs) during travel to countries with risk of dengue and chikungunya. Care for US military personnel with combat-related concussive traumatic brain injury (TBI) has substantially changed in recent years, yet trends in clinical outcomes remain largely unknown. Our prospective longitudinal studies of US military personnel with concussive TBI from 2008-2013 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and twp sites in Afghanistan provided an opportunity to assess for changes in outcomes over time and analyze correlates of overall disability. We enrolled 321 active-duty US military personnel who sustained concussive TBI in theater and 254 military controls.
