Parent-led cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an efficient, promising form of therapy that may be well suited for autistic youth with anxiety disorders. A recent clinical trial found that parent-led CBT - in which parents led their child through a guided CBT workbook with varying degrees of therapist support - was efficacious for reducing anxiety and associated functional impairment. While such findings demonstrate promise for future intervention development and dissemination efforts with this population, more work is needed to elucidate clinical factors that impact response to treatment as well as drop-out.

Introduction: The absence of reliable prognostic markers poses a challenge to the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients with aggressive disease may not receive sufficient treatment with conventional 'step-up' therapy, whereas a top-down approach may expose patients with indolent disease to unnecessary treatment-related toxicity. The objective of the Nordic IBD treatment strategy trial (NORDTREAT) is to assess the feasibility of personalised therapy by stratifying patients according to a prognostic serum protein signature at diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine whether the modified 28-joint disease activity index (DAPSA28) or the 28-joint disease activity score with C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP) is better for monitoring disease activity in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) when the full joint count is unavailable.
  • Analysis of real-world data from over 3,000 European patients revealed that at the 6-month mark, DAPSA28 provided similar remission rates to DAPSA, but DAS28-CRP showed significantly higher rates of both remission and response.
  • The results suggest that DAPSA28 is preferable to DAS28-CRP when conducting assessments without a full joint count due to the

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, can be challenging to diagnose, and treatment outcomes are difficult to predict. In the NORDTREAT cohort study, a Nordic prospective multicentre study, we aim to identify novel molecular biomarkers of diagnostic value by assessing the diagnostic test accuracy (cross-sectionally), as well as the prognostic utility when used as prognostic markers in the long-term (cohort study). In the diagnostic test accuracy study, the primary outcome is a successful diagnosis using one or more novel index tests at baseline compared with the ECCO criteria as the reference standard.

Many sequence variants have additive effects on blood lipid levels and, through that, on the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). We show that variants also have non-additive effects and interact to affect lipid levels as well as affecting variance and correlations. Variance and correlation effects are often signatures of epistasis or gene-environmental interactions.

Background: Genetic variants within nearly 1000 loci are known to contribute to modulation of blood lipid levels. However, the biological pathways underlying these associations are frequently unknown, limiting understanding of these findings and hindering downstream translational efforts such as drug target discovery.

Results: To expand our understanding of the underlying biological pathways and mechanisms controlling blood lipid levels, we leverage a large multi-ancestry meta-analysis (N = 1,654,960) of blood lipids to prioritize putative causal genes for 2286 lipid associations using six gene prediction approaches.

Article Synopsis
  • Doctors often check kidney function using two markers: creatinine and cystatin C.
  • In 2010, using both markers together helped discover new kidney problems called selective glomerular hypofiltration syndromes, which are serious and can increase the risk of illness and death.
  • The current guidelines don’t recommend cystatin C as a main marker, so many patients with these kidney issues might not be identified; experts believe cystatin C should be included in future guidelines.
