Implementers of outreach program in Indonesia often provide formal training for their outreach workers (OWs) only at the startup. We believe continuous training can be provided by experienced OWs at any time if an appropriate training package is available. Using a one-group pre-test-post-test study design; we developed, implemented and evaluated an OW-informed training program aimed at increasing OWs' knowledge and skills for outreaching to men who have sex with men and transgender women.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have various biological effects and they are non-linear in characteristic. In high oxidative stress, they may cause cytotoxicity, inhibit cell proliferation, and induce cell death in the form of apoptosis/necrosis; while in low or medium oxidative stress, ROS may cause DNA damage, cell mutation, inflammation, cell proliferation, and eventually they may induce carcinogenesis. Antioxidants are compounds with the ability to reduce ROS.

Aims: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), particularly selective COX-2 inhibitors, are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular adverse events. However, the association between these drugs and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with electrocardiogram-documented ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF-OHCA) has not been studied yet. This study was aimed to evaluate the association between the use of selective COX-2 inhibitors or conventional NSAIDs and VT/VF-OHCA compared with non-use.

Food location by mosquitoes is mediated by resource-derived olfactory and visual signals. Smell sensation is intermittent and dependent on the environment, whereas visual signals are continual and precede olfactory cues. Success of mosquito bait technology, where olfactory cues are used for attraction, is being impeded by reduced attractiveness.

Little is known about the prevalence of and factors that influence retention in HIV-related care among Indonesian men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (transwomen, or waria in Indonesian term). Therefore, we explored the driving factors of retention in care among HIV-positive MSM and waria in Indonesia. This cross-sectional study involved 298 self-reported HIV-positive MSM (n = 165) and waria (n = 133).

Three acacetin triglycosides (compounds 1, 2 and 3) were isolated from the herbs of Elsholtzia ciliata (Labiatae). The structure were identified as 7-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 6)]-β-D-glucopyranoside (compound 1), 7-O-(6-O-acetyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 6)]-β-D-glucopyranoside (compound 2) and 7-O-(6-O-acetyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)[(4-O-acetyl)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 6)]-β-D-glucopyranoside (compound 3) of acacetin. The structures of these compounds were determined on the basis of 2D-NMR spectroscopic data.

Purpose: To assess the risk of gastrointestinal perforation, ulcers, or bleeding (PUB) associated with the use of conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and selective COX-2 inhibitors, with or without PPIs compared with conventional NSAIDs.
Methods: A case-control study was performed within conventional NSAIDs and/or selective COX-2 inhibitors users identified from the Dutch PHARMO Record Linkage System in the period 1998-2012. Cases were patients aged ≥18 years with a first hospital admission for PUB.

This systematic review aims to gain insights from existing literature from Southeast Asian countries to improve future HIV prevention programs for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (transwomen). We conducted a systematic search in six international databases for literature published prior to 1 January 2015. We included studies describing behavioral interventions targeting MSM and/or transwomen, and conducted in at least one Southeast Asian country.

Chicoric acid (dicaffeoyl-tartaric acid), is a natural phenolic compound found in a number of plants, such as chicory (Cichorium intybus) and Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea), which possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and analgesic activities. Although these biological effects of chicoric acid have been investigated, there are no reports of its antiallergic-related anti-inflammatory effects in human mast cells (HMC)-1 or anaphylactic activity in a mouse model. Therefore, we investigated the antiallergic-related anti-inflammatory effect of chicoric acid and its underlying mechanisms of action using phorbol-12-myristate 13-acetate plus calcium ionophore A23187 (PMACI)-stimulated HMC-1 cells.

A highly porous and spongy monolith cryogel was prepared by a single freeze-thawing cycle of a PVA solution containing chitin nanofibrils (CNFs) as the nanofiller and glutaraldehyde (GA) as the cross-linker. The presence of CNFs significantly reinforced the spongy structure of the cryogel so that repeated squeezing-releasing did not deteriorate its spongy structure. The in situ self-polymerized polydopamine was formed inside the spongy cryogel by soaking the cryogel in a dopamine solution.

Highly acetylated starch was prepared by reacting corn starch with acetic anhydride. Acetylated starch (AS) is soluble in acetone and can be precipitated out from AS-acetone solution when deionised (DI) water is added as a non-solvent. The curcumin dissolved in AS-acetone solution could be effectively encapsulated in AS as spherical microparticles (1-3 μm) when mixed with the DI water.
