Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting the pilosebaceous units characterized by recurrent comedones, erythematous papules and pustules. The disease is benign however may produce scarring, erythema, and hyperpigmentation resulting in physical and psychological problems. Conventional therapy may reduce the symptoms of AV nevertheless, has a possibility of resistance, unwanted side effects, and has high cost.

Novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in a 12-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

J Cancer Res Ther

December 2022

Department of Pediatrics of Ulin General Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with COVID-19 might still have a risk of severe infection due to immunocompromised condition. The clinical features in oncology population are quite similar to those of previous reports in general pediatric cases. Chemotherapy should be arranged individually to balance the risk between leukemia progressivity itself and COVID-19 complications.

() contain a number of active compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, steroids, and alkaloids. The active compounds from plants have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering cholesterol levels by inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzym A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity. This study aims to investigate the potential active compounds in the ethanolic extract of Tacca tubers () from the Banyak Islands, Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh Province both in vitro and in silico.

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is still a major global health problem. Determination of reference ranges for complete blood count (CBC), reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He), immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF), and reticulocyte production index (RPI) are essential to help diagnose a disease.

Purpose: The study aims to know the prevalence of IDA, risk factors that influence it, and set a reference range for CBC and reticulocyte parameters in infants aged 9-11 months in Indonesia.

Concanavalin A (ConA), the most studied plant lectin, has been known as a potent anti-neoplastic agent for a long time. Since initial reports on its capacity to kill cancer cells, much attention has been devoted to unveiling the lectin's exact molecular mechanism. It has been revealed that ConA can bind to several receptors on cancerous and normal cells and modulate the related signaling cascades.

BACKGROUND Fournier's gangrene is an idiopathic form of necrotizing fasciitis involving the genital and perineal regions; it is associated with high complication and mortality rates. Rarely, perineal infection may be caused by hospital-acquired antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. This report is of a 30-day-old infant with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae necrotizing fasciitis involving the perineal region.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have an impact on geriatric patients worldwide since geriatrics itself is an age group with a high risk due to declined physiological function and many comorbidities, especially for those who undergo surgery. In this study, we determine the association between perioperative factors with 30-day mortality and a survival rate of geriatric patients undergoing surgery during COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted at 14 central hospitals in Indonesia.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy since long time already has become the preferred method because laparoscopic cholecystectomy has many advantages compared to standard open cholecystectomy. However, since it has associated with a higher risk of complication, preoperative prediction of risk factors is needed to assess the intraoperative difficulties. Various scoring systems have a role in predicting intraoperative difficulties; however, there is a need to find a consistent and reliable predictive system.

This study aimed to develop a process for producing bio-oil, char, and value-added chemicals from food waste and plastic waste blend using co-pyrolysis under controlled conditions. The food waste (rice, vegetables, and fish) was blended in definite ratios (70:30, 60:40, and 50:50 w/w) with polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Experiments were conducted at various temperatures (250, 300, and 350 °C) and reaction times (30, 60, 90, and 120 min).

Applications of ultra-low-pressure filtration systems are increasing as they offer enhanced sustainability due to lower energy input, almost no use of chemicals, and minimum operational expenditure. In many cases, they operate as a decentralized system using a gravity-driven membrane (GDM) filtration process. These applications are relatively new; hence, the fundamental knowledge of the process is still limited.

Objective: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Indonesia, with Indonesia's breast cancer mortality rate being the highest among Southeast Asian countries. This study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness and budget impacts of adding trastuzumab to chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone for HER2-positive breast cancer patients in Indonesia.

Methods: We performed a Markov model-based economic evaluation to assess cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, and budget impact.

Tropical Peatland Hydrology Simulated With a Global Land Surface Model.

J Adv Model Earth Syst

March 2022

Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences KU Leuven Heverlee Belgium.

Tropical peatlands are among the most carbon-dense ecosystems on Earth, and their water storage dynamics strongly control these carbon stocks. The hydrological functioning of tropical peatlands differs from that of northern peatlands, which has not yet been accounted for in global land surface models (LSMs). Here, we integrated tropical peat-specific hydrology modules into a global LSM for the first time, by utilizing the peatland-specific model structure adaptation (PEATCLSM) of the NASA Catchment Land Surface Model (CLSM).

A Rotary Spacer System for Energy-Efficient Membrane Fouling Control in Oil/Water Emulsion Filtration.

Membranes (Basel)

May 2022

Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM Johor Bahru, Skudai 81310, Johor, Malaysia.

Membrane fouling deteriorates membrane filtration performances. Hence, mitigating membrane fouling is the key factor in sustaining the membrane process, particularly when treating fouling-prone feed, such as oil/water emulsions. The use of spacers has been expanded in the membrane module system, including for membrane fouling control.

Lysine glutarylation is a post-translational modification (PTM) that plays a regulatory role in various physiological and biological processes. Identifying glutarylated peptides using proteomic techniques is expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, developing computational models and predictors can prove useful for rapid identification of glutarylation.

Aim: Activated blood platelet products facilitate myocardial intracellular Ca2+ overload, thereby provoking afterdepolarizations and increasing susceptibility of ischemic myocardium to ventricular fibrillation (VF). These effects are counteracted in vitro by acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), but no prior study investigated whether ASA is associated with decreased out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) risk on a population level. Therefore, we studied whether ASA and other antiplatelet drugs (carbasalate calcium, clopidogrel) are associated with decreased risk of OHCA.
