Patients with hypertension are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and death. Resistant hypertension, or hypertension that is unsuccessfully treated with multiple antihypertensive medications, further exacerbates the complications and negative outcomes for patients. A new pathway, via aldosterone synthesis inhibition, is currently being studied as a method to reduce blood pressure values in patients who are currently taking other antihypertensive medications.

Background: Bortezomib (B), known as Velcade, is a reversible proteasome inhibitor approved for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) patients (pts). The standard of care protocol includes eight cycles of intravenous push (IVP) injections of B and oral dexamethasone (D), which increases the toxicity. Here, we describe the results of an open-label, phase II clinical trial employing only four cycles of B/D.

In the realm of cardiovascular care, the quest for innovative and holistic approaches to enhance patient outcomes persists. This study analyzes osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and its potential impact on pain intensity, length of hospitalization, respiratory function, and hemodynamic response in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). OMT, with its emphasis on physical manipulation of the body's muscles and tissues, presents a potential treatment beyond the realms of conventional post-operative care.

Craniosacral treatment (CST) is an osteopathic technique grounded in the assumption that there is an intrinsic, fine movement of the cerebrospinal fluid. This rhythmic movement can be utilized for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes by palpation and manipulation of the skull, spine, and associated connective tissues. Therapeutic benefit is likely due to action on the autonomic nervous system (ANS), specifically through the vagus nerve.

Background: High blood pressure (hypertension) disproportionately affects African American/Black (Black) women. Previous research suggests that self-managing hypertension may be challenging, yet mobile applications (apps) can help to empower patients and increase medication adherence. We developed questions to test the usability of evaluating the WHISE (Wellness, Hypertension, Information Sharing, Self-Management, Education) mobile app for Black women with hypertension.

Ischemic stroke is defined as a reduction in blood flow to brain tissue that results in the deterioration and death of neurons in a matter of minutes. While often seen in older patients with a history of atherosclerosis of the major arteries, a subset of ischemic strokes occur in younger individuals with minimal to no prior risk factors. Further evaluation of these unknown, or cryptogenic, strokes has yielded positive findings of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) in a concerning number of cases.

Neuromodulation is a developing field of medicine that includes a vast array of minimally invasive and non-invasive therapies including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), peripheral nerve stimulation, and spinal cord stimulation (SCS). Although the current literature surrounding the use of neuromodulation in managing chronic pain is abundant, there is an insufficient amount of evidence specifically regarding neuromodulation in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Given the pain and functional deficits that these patients face, that are not amenable to other forms conservative therapy, the purpose of this narrative review is to examine and assess the use of various neuromodulation modalities to manage pain and restore function in the SCI population.
