Background: Patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) are at increased risk for cardiovascular events but traditional risk factors do not fully explain this association. Evaluation of subclinical vascular disease might improve risk stratification and management of these patients. The aim of the study was to compare the prevalence of markers of arterial stiffness, carotid atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease between patients with DKD and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and preserved kidney function.

Early diagnosis and initiation of appropriate immunosuppressive treatment remain the cornerstone of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis at the cost of significant toxicity. In this report, we present a case of a 69-year-old female who presented with advanced renal insufficiency and evidence of pulmonary hemorrhage and was MPO-ANCA-positive with a clinical phenotype of granulomatosis with polyangiitis. Organ involvement included rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (GN), along with extrarenal manifestations (skin, upper and lower respiratory system involvement, and onset of saddle-nose deformity).

Despite advancements in molecular classification, tumor stage and grade still remain the most relevant prognosticators used by clinicians to decide on patient management. Here, we leverage publicly available data to characterize bladder cancer (BLCA)'s stage biology based on increased sample sizes, identify potential therapeutic targets, and extract putative biomarkers. A total of 1135 primary BLCA transcriptomes from 12 microarray studies were compiled in a meta-cohort and analyzed for monotonal alterations in pathway activities, gene expression, and co-expression patterns with increasing stage (Ta-T1-T2-T3-T4), starting from the non-malignant tumor-adjacent urothelium.

Introduction: To compare the efficacy and safety of different regimens used for maintenance of remission in patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody ANCA) vasculitis.
Methods: This network meta-analysis studied adult patients with ANCA vasculitis in complete remission, who were maintained with various regimens, excluding patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and those who have ended up in end-stage kidney disease. Outcomes of interest included relapse (any/major), relapse-free survival, and adverse effects.

Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare malignancy comprising 1-2% of all thyroid cancers in the United States. Approximately 20% of cases are familial, secondary to a germline RET mutation, while the remaining 80% are sporadic and also harbour a somatic RET mutation in more than half of all cases. Up to 15-20% of patients will present with distant metastatic disease, and retrospective series report a 10-year survival of 10-40% from time of first metastasis.

Introduction: Pure membranous lupus nephritis (MLN) accounts for 10-20% of total cases of lupus nephritis and is generally associated with a better patient and renal survival compared to proliferative classes. Studies of MLN are limited by small sample size and heterogeneity of included populations since patients with pure MLN and those with mixed classes are usually examined together.
Aim Of The Study: To describe clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with pure MLN, therapeutic regimens, response to treatment, renal relapses, and their long-term renal survival and to define prognostic factors of remission and relapse.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by hepatic fat accumulation in the absence of excessive alcohol consumption and is strongly associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and other metabolic syndrome features. NAFLD is becoming increasingly prevalent and currently constitutes the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recently, the term metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has been proposed reflecting more accurately the underlying pathogenesis and the cardiometabolic disorders associated to NAFLD/MAFLD.

Background: Although older adults are at high risk for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission, age is often used as a selection criterion in case of ICU beds scarcity. We sought to compare the proportion, clinical features and mortality between patients ≥70 years old and younger ICU patients with COVID-19.
Methods: All patients, consecutively admitted to our COVID ICU, where age was not used as an admission criterion, from March 2020 through April 2021, were included.

Hip fractures in the elderly are associated with an increased mortality rate, even if they are operated within the recommended time window. However, the causes of mortality vary considerably depending on the postoperative period and the patients' comorbidities. In the 30-day postoperative period, the most common causes of death are acute processes such as bacterial and aspiration pneumonia followed by myocardial infarction, cancer, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, stroke, pulmonary embolism, and acute renal failure.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large-vessel vasculitis that affects cranial and extra-cranial arteries. Extra-cranial GCA presents mainly with non-specific symptoms and the differential diagnosis is very broad, while the cranial form has more typical clinical picture and physicians have a lower threshold for diagnosis and treatment. Although temporal artery biopsy (TAB) has an established role, ultrasound (US) is being increasingly used as the first-line imaging modality in suspected GCA.
