Background: In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the prevalence of hypertension is increasing due to many factors like rapid population growth, globalization, stress, and urbanization. We aimed to characterize the perceptions of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk among individuals with hypertension living in Nigeria and identify barriers and facilitators to optimal hypertension management.
Methods: This cross-sectional survey study was conducted at a large teaching hospital in Lagos, Nigeria.

Objective: To determine the effect of intraoperative music on various markers of anxiety among adult patients undergoing small incision cataract surgery.
Methods: This was a hospital-based, age-sex matched, comparative cross-sectional study of consenting 144 adult participants aged 46 years and above with operable, age-related cataracts undergoing small incision cataract surgery under local anaesthesia in two ophthalmic centres. All participants were allotted into two equal groups consisting of 72 participants in the experimental group (exposed to music of their choice) and 72 participants in the control group (no music exposure).

Migraines are chronic, painful, and one of the most prevalent disabling primary headache disorders, mainly treated with pharmacological methods. Patients suffering from migraine suffer from a significantly reduced quality of life. The use of non-pharmacological methods to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with long-term chronic conditions can help improve quality of life, reduce disease burden, and subsequently alleviate the economic burden on the patient.

Background: Lingual nerve injury is a known complication of mandibular third molar (M3M) surgery, and retraction of the lingual flap is reported to reduce the incidence of this complication. However, there is no global consensus on the routine retraction of lingual flap.
Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the perception and practice of lingual flap retraction amongst oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Nigeria.
Objective: To document the clinical presentation, endoscopic diagnosis, and Sheffield scores of children with gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding who were referred for endoscopy at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The participants who needed endoscopy based on clinical criteria and according to the Sheffield scores were also documented.
Methods: This study analyzed the records of 111 children with GI bleeding retrospectively from January 2013 to January 2021, while 9 children were recruited prospectively from February 2021 to March 2022.

An estimated two-thirds of the world's children and adolescents, most of whom live in low- and middle- income countries lack access to safe, quality, and timely surgical care. While much efforts have been made in the last decade to advocate for children' surgery, several economic and policy gaps remain, hampering progress and investments. These gaps range from lack of adequate data on costs and cost-effectiveness, high rate of out-of-pocket payments and limited health insurance coverage, to non-inclusion of children's surgical care in public child health policies and surgical plans.

Methods: A bibliometric review of the Nigerian neurosurgical literature and data from a structured survey of Nigerian neurosurgeons and residents provided details of current local and international collaborations for neurosurgical research, service delivery, training, and capacity building.
