Thyroid eye disease (TED) is a complex autoimmune condition that can cause proptosis, ophthalmoplegia, diplopia, optic nerve compression, and vision loss. These clinical findings are caused by a complex pathological mechanism characterized by thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor autoantibodies activating thyroid-stimulating hormone receptors (TSH-Rs). Overexpressed insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) receptors found in orbital fibroblasts form complexes with these TSH-Rs, leading to the inflammation and expansion of these tissues.

Gillespie syndrome, a genetically inherited condition, is described as a disease that primarily affects the ocular and associated nervous systems. It is characterized by a clinical triad of bilateral aniridia, intellectual disability, and cerebellar ataxia, and is inherited in an autosomal dominant or recessive fashion. The most well-studied mutations related to this syndrome affect the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor type 1 gene (ITPR1).

Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) and its sequela is a disabling pathology in the foot and ankle. The 2-stage computer hexapod-assisted technique is an effective tool to address midfoot Charcot and ankle-hindfoot deformities to restore function and decrease the risk of amputation secondary to ulceration and infection. Although this is not the only technique available, it is an excellent option in cases with significant angular deformity or subluxation, need to reduce shortening of the foot, and in the presence of soft tissue defects, with or without concurrent soft tissue or bone infection.

Background: End-stage ankle osteoarthritis often requires one of 2 major surgical procedures: total ankle arthroplasty or ankle arthrodesis. Although the gold standard has been arthrodesis, patients with diabetes represent a unique cohort that requires additional considerations because of their decreased mobility and risk factors for cardiovascular complications. The purpose of this study is to review odds of major and minor adverse events for patients with diabetes and patients without diabetes in both total ankle arthroplasty and ankle arthrodesis.

Utilizing the mechanical axis can decrease load on the joint and be beneficial when analyzing bony deformities and planning surgical correction with osteotomies. The aim of this study was to identify the normal mechanical axes of the first and second metatarsals and use them to obtain the first/second mechanical intermetatarsal angle (mIMA). The mechanical axis of the first metatarsal was used to obtain the mechanical tibial sesamoid position (mTSP), which provides a mechanical relationship with the sesamoid apparatus.
