Obesity is associated with dysfunctional electrocardiographic and cardiac autonomic parameters, which may lead to increased cardiovascular morbidity. Novel electrocardiographic repolarization markers such as Tpeak-Tend (Tpe) interval have not yet been deeply studied in obese patients. We aimed to investigate the association between ventricular repolarization parameters and heart rate variability (HRV) and how they are affected by changes occurring in the cardiac autonomic nervous system.

Department of Anaesthesiology, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg, New Delhi, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic back or limb pain often leads to disability, depression, and low self-esteem, typically diagnosed as arthritis or nerve root issues, and treated with long-term analgesics with minimal relief.
  • Hypothyroidism can mimic symptoms of nerve issues, making it hard to differentiate from entrapment neuropathies, with symptoms like muscle weakness, cramps, and exercise intolerance being key indicators.
  • The study highlights five cases where treating hypothyroidism with thyroxine significantly alleviated chronic pain, emphasizing the importance of screening thyroid levels before considering more aggressive pain management methods.

Background And Aims: The time paediatric patients should resume oral intake after surgery is still ill-defined. No specific evidence suggests that the usual practice of postoperative fasting of 4-6 h to reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is beneficial. The primary objective of this study was to assess the occurrence of PONV with early oral feeding compared to conventional feeding in children undergoing daycare surgery under general anaesthesia.
