The impact of obesity on heart rate variability (HRV) and ventricular repolarization, both vital indicators of cardiovascular health, is the focus of this review. Obesity, measured by BMI, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio, significantly increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk due to structural and autonomic heart changes. Findings show that obese individuals exhibit prolonged QT and Tpeak-to-Tend (Tpe) intervals, suggesting delayed ventricular recovery and greater arrhythmia risk.

Background: Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of Peripheral Neuropathy (using nerve conduction studies (NCS)) in children with transfusion-dependent thalassemia aged between 5 to 18 years and to study its correlation with chronic anemia, ferritin levels, chelation status, annual transfusion requirement, deficiency of serum Vitamin B12, and Folate levels.
Methods: In this hospital-based cross-sectional study, 100 eligible children were enrolled in a tertiary care teaching hospital in New Delhi, India. Neurological examinations focusing on peripheral neuropathy followed by NCS were performed on all the patients.

Machine learning and its specialized forms, such as Artificial Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks, are increasingly being used for detecting and managing gastrointestinal conditions. Recent advancements involve using Artificial Neural Network models to enhance predictive accuracy for severe lower gastrointestinal (LGI) bleeding outcomes, including the need for surgery. To this end, artificial intelligence (AI)-guided predictive models have shown promise in improving management outcomes.

Malnutrition has been reported in congenital ichthyoses in several studies, but its prevalence in Indian children with congenital ichthyoses (CI) as compared to unaffected children is unknown. The objective was to assess the prevalence of malnutrition in 32 children with CI and matched healthy controls and to study the correlation between clinical severity of ichthyosis using visual ichthyosis index severity (VIIS) score with malnutrition, biochemical parameters (hemoglobin, vitamin D, protein and albumin). Malnutrition was detected in 46.

Sudden deaths in infants and children represent a profound and tragic event that continues to challenge researchers despite extensive investigation over several decades. The predominant phenotype, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), has evolved into the broader category of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID). In older children, a less understood phenomenon known as sudden unexplained death in childhood (SUDC) has garnered attention.
