Endowing current artificial chemical reactions (ACRs) with high specificity and intricate activation capabilities is crucial for expanding their applications in accurate bioimaging within living cells. However, most of the reported ACR-based evaluations relied on either single biomarker stimuli or dual activators without obvious biological relevance, still limiting their accuracy and fidelity. Herein, taking the metal-ion-dependent DNAzyme cleavage reaction as a model ACR, two regulators, glutathione (GSH) and telomerase (TE) activated DNAzyme cleavage reactions, were exploited for precise discrimination of cancerous cells from normal cells.

Metal carbides are known to contain small carbon units similar to those found in the molecules of methane, acetylene, and allene. However, for numerous binary systems ab initio calculations predict the formation of unusual metal carbides with exotic polycarbon units, [C] rings, and graphitic carbon sheets at high pressure (HP). Here we report the synthesis and structural characterization of a HP-CaC polymorph and a CaC compound featuring deprotonated polyacene-like and para-poly(indenoindene)-like nanoribbons, respectively.

TiO is the most widely used white pigment in plastics and food packaging industry, thus the question of its migration towards food and hence the impact on consumers is raised. Since recent research indicate its potential toxicity, it is necessary to study TiO contamination as a consequence of food storage. For this purpose, plastic containers from commercially-available dairy products and custom-made TiO-spiked polypropylene materials were put in contact with 50% (v/v) ethanol and 3% (w/v) acetic acid, which were used here as food simulants.

Siderophores are secondary metabolites utilized by bacteria to acquire iron (Fe), an essential transition metal nutrient. Fe levels in the host environment are tightly regulated and can be further restricted to starve invading bacterial pathogens in a host-defense process known as nutritional immunity. To survive and colonize the Fe-limited host environment, bacteria produce siderophores and express cognate siderophore transport machinery.

The ability of achieving high efficiency makes tandem organic photovoltaics (PVs) a competitive technique in potential indoor applications. Except high efficiency, reliable indoor energy supply also calls for outstanding stability. However, unavoidable unstable voltage supply from the circuit control system for indoor light sources like light emitting diodes (LED) and incandescent lamps would cause carrier density fluctuation and device fatigue driven by periodic light/dark switching.

Foxp3 regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the colon are key to promoting peaceful coexistence with symbiotic microbes. Differentiated in either thymic or peripheral locations, and modulated by microbes and other cellular influencers, colonic Treg subsets have been identified through key transcription factors (TFs; Helios, Rorγ, Gata3, and cMaf), but their interrelationships are unclear. Applying a multimodal array of immunologic, genomic, and microbiological assays, we find more overlap than expected between populations.

Background: The diversity of the antigenic T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire clonally expressed on T lymphocytes is a key element of the adaptive immune system protective functions. A decline in diversity in the older adults is associated with health deterioration. This diversity is generated by the rearrangement of TRB genes coding for TCR chains during lymphocyte differentiation in the thymus, but is essentially maintained by peripheral T lymphocytes proliferation for most of life.
