Introduction: We have previously shown that some patients present thrombocytopenia (less than 100 × 10/L platelets) in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). To further explore the nature of this association, we have now analyzed the association of thrombocytopenia with neutropenia (less than 0.5 × 10/L granulocytes) in NAFLD.

Methotrexate (MTX), an important chemotherapeutic agent, is often accompanied with mucositis. The occurrence and severity are unpredictable and show large interindividual variability. In this study, we review and meta-analyze previously studied genetic variants in relation to MTX-induced mucositis.

After gaining experience conducting both auto and allografts in persons with hematological diseases in the HSCT programs in Puebla and Monterrey, México, this study outlines subsequent program autografting patients with autoimmune conditions. The first transplant in multiple sclerosis was conducted in Puebla on July 5, 2006. From 2015 we increased activity autografting persons with autoimmune conditions in the two campuses of the HSCT-México program: Puebla and Monterrey.

Thrombocytopenia (less than 100 × 10/L platelets) presents in around one quarter of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the hepatic component of insulin resistance (IR). It is unknown whether IR, by itself, associates with thrombocytopenia. Persons with NAFLD and/or IR were prospectively accrued in the study after February 2018.

Objective: A protective function of vitamin D in metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been described. The objective of the present study was to examine the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations and MetS in non-diabetic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) women.
Methods: Cross-sectional analyses of the relationship between concentrations of 25(OH)D, MetS, and its components were made in 160 non-diabetic SLE women.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with a high burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is in part imputed to classical vascular risk factors such as hypertension. Hypertension is frequent among patients with SLE and studies show it is more prevalent in SLE patients than in people without SLE. Despite the high frequency of hypertension in SLE patients, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the development of hypertension remain poorly understood.

In order to reset the immune system to baseline function, autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been performed in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). After June 2015, 617 new consecutive patients with MS were autografted in our center with non-frozen peripheral blood stem cells. The autografts were performed on an out-patient basis, after conditioning with cyclophosphamide and rituximab.

The sticky platelet syndrome (SPS) is a common cause of both arterial and venous thrombosis, being a dominant autosomal disease with qualitative platelet alterations and familial occurrence. It is characterized by platelet hyperreactivity with increased platelet aggregability in response to low concentrations of platelet agonists: epinephrine, adenosine diphosphate, or both. The clinical manifestations involve venous or arterial thrombosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, and fetal growth retardation.

The increase in cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is not fully explained by traditional CVD risk factors. Regulatory T cells (Treg cells) are considered atheroprotective. We investigated the relationship between the absolute number of different phenotypes of Treg cells and abnormal carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in women with SLE.

Objective: We investigated the proportion of Vβ T cell receptor (TCR) gene expression in peripheral CD3+ lymphocytes in familial and non-familial systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients.
Method: The Vβ TCR repertoire was studied in 14 families in which several members had SLE. The Vβ TCR usage in SLE patients (n = 27) was compared with that in healthy members of these multiplex families (n = 47), in 37 sporadic SLE patients who had no relatives with SLE, and in 15 healthy unrelated controls.

We studied rates of granulocyte and platelets recovery in 359 consecutive subjects receiving blood cell infusions in the context of autotransplants for plasma cell myeloma (N = 216) and lymphomas (N = 143). Blood cells were mobilised with filgrastim given for 4-5 days and collected after a median of 2 (range, 1-2) apheresis. Apheresis products were stored at 4° C for a median of 3 days (range, 2-6 days).

Activated protein C resistance (aPCR) phenotypes represent around 20% of the laboratory findings in Mexican Mestizos having suffered thrombosis and displaying clinical markers of thrombophilia. In a single institution for a 276-month period, 96 Mexican mestizos with a history of thrombosis and clinical markers of a primary thrombophilic state were prospectively studied to identify a thrombophilic condition. An abnormal aPCR phenotype was identified in 18 individuals.

To elucidate the relationship between P-glycoprotein activity on peripheral blood leukocytes of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with lupus arthritis and the clinical response to methotrexate. An observational study was made in patients with SLE according to ACR criteria 1997 who had arthralgia and arthritis and received methotrexate for ≥3 months. Methotrexate responders and non-responders were compared according to the Clinical Disease Activity Index.

The immunomodulatory effects of vitamin D have been extensively studied in the context of autoimmunity. Multiple studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in autoimmune diseases. Recently, a possible protective role of vitamin D in autoimmunity has been described; however, this function remains controversial.

Background: Using only serologic determinations, we have previously found that thrombocytopenia presents in less than one half of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Material And Methods: Employing a more accurate method to define the presence of NAFLD, serologic determinations (Fibromax®) coupled with liver transient elastography (TE/Fibroscan®), we have prospectively studied a group of 211 individuals with a suspicion of a liver disease.
Results: NAFLD was identified in 81 individuals.
