Global warming and drought stress are expected to have a negative impact on agricultural productivity. Desiccation-tolerant species, which are able to tolerate the almost complete desiccation of their vegetative tissues, are appropriate models to study extreme drought tolerance and identify novel approaches to improve the resistance of crops to drought stress. This study investigated a quick way to discriminate grape varieties based on their composition in volatile compounds through a SIFT-MS scan coupled with simple chemometrics approaches such as analysis of variance (ANOVA), principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical ascendant classification (HAC). The 23 studied grape varieties were distinguishable using O, HO and NO as reagent ions, and the combination of these three ions. For its ability to ionize most compounds, to efficiently fragment them to generate ions with distinct m/z ratio, and to enhance the differentiation of compounds of similar masses, O reagent ion should be preferentially considered.

The redox state of the plastoquinone (PQ) pool is a known sensor for retrograde signaling. In this paper, we asked, "does the redox state of the PQ pool modulate the saturation state of thylakoid lipids?" Data from fatty acid composition and mRNA transcript abundance analyses suggest a strong connection between these two aspects in a model marine diatom. Fatty acid profiles of Phaeodactylum tricornutum exhibited specific changes when the redox state of the PQ pool was modulated by light and two chemical inhibitors [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU) or 2,5-dibromo-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-p-benzoquinone (DBMIB)].

The samples with two colors of shell (white and brown) were collected from three sites belonging to the Tunisian coasts: Kalaât El Andalous (KA) and Soliman (SM) and Gabes (GM)). The phylogenetic trees obtained from the 2 markers are similar and subdivided samples into 3 distinct clades; clade (1) regrouped GM, clade (2) regrouped KS (KS contains samples from SM and KAa) and clade (3) is formed by KAb.

Coastal microbial communities are affected by seasonal environmental change, biotic interactions and fluctuating nutrient availability. We investigated the seasonal dynamics of communities of eukaryotes, a major group of double-stranded DNA viruses that infect eukaryotes (order Imitervirales; phylum Nucleocytoviricota), and prokaryotes in the Uranouchi Inlet, Kochi, Japan.
