Differentially Expressed Blood ARLNC1 in Combination with PCA3/PSA have Reassuring Clinical Applications in the Early Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer in Iranians: A pilot study.

Purpose: Prostate cancer (PCA) is the second most common malignancy in Western countries. Long non-coding RNAs are new markers in disease diagnosis. Our aim of this study was to investigate liquid biopsy biomarkers with high specificity and sensitivity for early diagnosis of PCA patients in Iran.

Mechanical Ablation of the Posterior Urethral Valve Omitting Thermal Energy: A Brief Report.

Management of the posterior urethral valve (PUV) is a clinical challenge in pediatric urology. We report the results of a modified valve ablation method without using a pediatric resectoscope and thermal energy. Patients were selected from children with PUV who were referred to the pediatric urology clinic of Shahid Labbafinejad Hospital, Tehran, Iran, and have undergone endoscopic valve ablation surgery between May 2019 to May 2021.

The Hidden Link between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Kidney Stones: Finding from the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS).

Background: We aimed to investigate the association between kidney stones and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Materials And Methods: In a cross-sectional study, data from the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS) were used to investigate the risk of kidney stones in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Four distinct phenotypes of PCOS, as defined by the Rotterdam criteria, were examined in a sample of 520 women and compared to a control group of 1638 eumenorrheic non-hirsute healthy women.

Genotype-Phenotype Correlations in Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Due to Mutations and Implications in Membrane Trafficking.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4 (CMT4) is an autosomal recessive severe form of neuropathy with genetic heterogeneity. CMT4B1 is caused by mutations in the myotubularin-related 2 ( gene and as a member of the myotubularin family, the MTMR2 protein is crucial for the modulation of membrane trafficking. To enable future clinical trials, we performed a detailed review of the published cases with mutations and describe four novel cases identified through whole-exome sequencing (WES).

Effects of Caudal Epidural Dexmedetomidine on Pain, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate and Quality of Life in Patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome; A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of dexmedetomidine in caudal epidural on controlling pain, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and quality of life in patients with failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS).

Methods: The study was a single-blind clinical trial. From the total of 70 patients suffering from low back pain caused by a failed back surgery syndrome were referred to Akhtar and Imam Hossein Hospitals between the ages of 25 to 75 years with a history of back pain more than 12 weeks and a visual analogue scale (VAS) score of higher than 3, and 50 people were randomly selected and divided into two groups of dexmedetomidine and control.

Whole exome sequencing revealed a novel dystrophin-related protein-2 () deletion in an Iranian family with symptoms of polyneuropathy.

Objectives: Charcot-Marie Tooth disease (CMT) is one of the main inherited causes of motor and sensory neuropathies with variable expressivity and age-of onset. Although more than 70 genes have been identified for CMT, more studies are needed to discover other genes involved in CMT. Introduction of whole exome sequencing (WES) to capture all the exons may help to find these genes.

Niemann-Pick Diseases: The Largest Iranian Cohort with Genetic Analysis.

Objectives: Niemann-Pick diseases (NPD) is an autosomal recessive inherited lysosomal lipid storage disorder which occurs due to a defect in cellular cholesterol trafficking, leading to excess lipid accumulation in multiple organ systems such as the brain, lungs, spleen, and liver. SPMD1-associated disease includes classic infantile and visceral NPD type A and B respectively. Type C NPD is subacute or juvenile.

MicroRNA and exosome: Key players in rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is known as one of important autoimmune disorders which can lead to joint pain and damage throughout body. Given that internal (ie, genetic and epigenetic alterations) and external factors (ie, lifestyle changes, age, hormones, smoking, stress, and obesity) involved in RA pathogenesis. Increasing evidence indicated that cellular and molecular alterations play critical roles in the initiation and progression of RA.

Prevalence of celiac disease in Iranian patients with rheumatologic disorders.

Aim: Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), and Fibromyalgia (FM) may have underlying non-diagnosed celiac disease (CD).

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of CD in patients with these underlying diseases in Iran.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed among 300 consecutive patients with SLE, RA, and FM (each group 100 patients) since 2015 to 2017.

A comparison of prophylactic use of meperidine, meperidine plus dexamethasone, and ketamine plus midazolam for preventing of shivering during spinal anesthesia: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

Study Objectives: The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of combination of meperidine and dexamethasone with that of placebo, meperidine alone, and the combination of ketamine and midazolam in preventing shivering during spinal anesthesia.

Design: This is a prospective, placebo-controlled study.

Setting: The setting is at an operating room of a university-based teaching hospital.

Time management behaviors of head nurses and staff nurses employed in Tehran Social Security Hospitals, Iran in 2011.

Background: Effective time management is considered important for managers for achieving the goals in an organization. Head nurses can improve their efficiency and performance with effective use of time. There has always been a lot of disagreement in understanding time management behaviors of head nurses; therefore, the present study was conducted with an aim to compare the understanding of head nurses and staff nurses of the time management behaviors of head nurses employed in Social Security Hospitals in Tehran, Iran in 2011.

Kikuchi-fujimoto disease in 21-year-old man.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis is a benign disorder characterized histologically by necrotic foci surrounded by histiocytic aggregates, and with the absence of neutrophils. The patient was a 21-year-old man with chills, fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. He had swelling and tenderness of cervical area.

Effect of active vitamin D on expression of co-stimulatory molecules and HLA-DR in renal transplant recipients.

Objectives: Full activation of T cells requires 2 distinct but synergistic signals. The first is the T-cell antigen receptor, which is antigen specific, and the second is activation of co-stimulatory signals. Active vitamin D (1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) decreases T-cell activation and proliferation, inhibits differentiation and maturation of dendritic cells, and induces tolerogenic dendritic cells.
